Super Boost/157 Hub Recommendation

2364 Views 11 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  JohnWhiteCD
Looking to build a new wheelset with, preferably, a matched pair of hubs for my Super Boost frame. I‘m probably not as well versed as I could be on my options, but they do seem slim. Leaning towards Centerlock and Straight Pull, but care Less about the straight pull as I can’t quite figure its advantages. Microspline, no budget, but not willing to throw money away, light preferably.

Anything in particular I should include or disregard?

Interested to hear Your suggestions. Thanks-

Most good hubs are available in boost, and super boost. So availability of models shouldn’t really be an issue.

Are you wanting a loud hub, or a quiet hub? Do you care about how many points of engagement it has?
Something that just works no bling - DT Swiss 350

Bling - industry nine, Chris King (cl only)

Silent, expensive bling but heavy onyx

As for advantage of straight pull - there is none. Also no advantage to go jbend either.

Not an issue. Loud- hikers will hear me, soft- I win. My previous bike was very quiet and my current hub (DT370) is a bit louder though I’d say it’s still fairly soft sounding relative to some of the buzzing I hear.

Engagement can probably fill an entire thread or three, but I don’t care. It may perhaps give the perception of “quality”, but I personally don’t see the connection.

-Yes, looking at the 350, though only marginally lighter than my current 350’s. Still a very good value!
-Thanks for your view on straight verse j-bend. That certainly increases my options! Straight pull does seem cool, however, if only because it’s new For me.
Thoughts on White Ind C157 superboost hub?
Wow, just looked at C157. Very fancy! Very enticing for a number of reasons like weight, bearings and especially because I can choose silver to match my bike. Still, $400 for just the rear! I wonder if there are better ways to allocate funds for the bike? In addition there is quite a lag time for orders. Though I’m not in a particular hurry it does seem excessive even considering today’s market. Great choice!
My current go-to hubs for 157mm are the new DT350s. Absolutely bombproof, reasonably light, relatively low noise and good price. I also have a wheelset with Onyx Vesper, which are cool because they make no noise, but the rear hub is literally 1/2 lb. heavier than most quality hubs. I've had I9 and hated the noise, and I think the manufacturing quality is lower than DT Swiss. Had two sets of Project 321 hubs that broke. Match the DT350 with some WeAreOne carbon rims and you'll be a happy camper.
Good info- The I9 does look pretty sweet, but I still keep coming back to the DT350. I can’t seem to find the 157 available in Centerlock, however. 32h. Microspline. Any ideas?
I couldn’t find in centerlock either so I just got the 6 bolt. Once they’re on you pretty much forget about the rotors anyway.

Yes, I’m sure you’re right. Just thought it’d be nice to have it in the desired configuration for the investment.
