Besides riding the lift and bombing down, are there cross-country type trails at Sunrise? I'm going up there on Saturday and my father-in-law, who's not very advanced on the trails, wants to go. So it's either send him on some cross-country trails or tell him to stay home. Thanks.

p.s. If anyone else is going or wants to meet me there, I'd love some company (who's advanced enough :) )

Their is really no cc trail at sunrise . Not All the downhill are that tough he could ride some of the blue trails easy. Or he could ride the road down the road is tougher then it might appear it is really loose.

Los Burros

The Los Burros trail in Pinetop is a great cross county trail. It's a 15 mi. loop that has a cut-through trail half-way so you can do only 7-8 miles if you want. I don't think it's that far from the Sunrise Ski Resort.

Ya there are many many miles of xc trails in and around the Pinetop area as I found out during a trip there last week. It's not Sunrise but maybe you could spend a day with him there. I'm going back next week to check a few trails out.

Here's a link to the trail system> http://www.wmonline.com/attract/trails.htm

XC trails by the campgrounds

There are a few miles of xc/horse trails around the campgrounds and in the area between the campgrounds and the parking lot for Sunrise. I haven't ridden them in a couple of years, but when I did they were pretty cool. I'm going up this weekend and would be happy to point you in the right direction.

second that on the xc trails

There's a decent amount of xc ski trails that he could ride on. I scoped out some of the camp loop stuff to see if it would be suitable for the gf and kids. They wind around through the forest, it was a pretty area. I only rode around about 20 min before dark one night after a day on the lifts, and I was wearing birkenstocks and riding on my eggbeaters, it was after I had already come back from dinner, so I didn't go too far... Here's a map:

Thanks for map, Don. I'm glad my father-in-law will have something to fall back on if the lift trails are too much for him.
