I'm about to get a wheelset built up around Hope Pro 2 hubs but can't decide between the Double Track's and the EX729's. I'm riding a pair of 729's on DMR Revolvers at the moment and have no complaints, so would have no problem going with the Mavics again, I just like the aesthetics of the Double Track. Weight isn't an issue, I'm just looking for some idea as to the comparative differences, if there are any of particular consideration. The bike is built on an '07 Big Hit frame, my riding is freeride and split 60/40% urban/trails, so there's quite a lot of square-edge stuff and unforgiving landings when I get it wrong (which I do with some regularity), although I'd consider myself to be a fairly smooth rider most of the time.

Is the Double Track a worthy contender? Or do I stay with tried and tested?

Many thanks in advance for your help.

double tracks (the Sun Mag 30) are really strong rims, but they are heavy,......you say you do not care but weight but it does matter.....if you are building...why don't you go tubeless with823's

I've no experience with tubeless. How would my tyre choices affected? Any other considerations?

you need a air compressor and some stans no tube juice....mount 1/2 of tire and add 2 scoops of stans......then fully mount tire......take soam soapy water (car wash/dish soap) and wipe rim and bead of tire.....then fill up with air.......good luck....michelin tires work the best

Mavic's tend to build up easier and require less truing in my experience. If you are building the wheel yourself go for the 729. They're burly and they build up really well.

Sun Double Tracks/Mag 30's are just ridiculous. If you need wheels that strong, you need to reconsider your riding abilities.
or stop hucking fat bender cliffs to flat and landing front wheel first.

Yeah for real. I see reviews for the Double Tracks that say: "These are tough rims...I've cased like 10 times and they're perfect!"

Solution: Do not case jumps.
