Why was Timmons Park chosen over Croft/Paris Mt./Issaqueena ? we felt that Timmons Park is a cycling resource lost to our community. It used to be a great little mile or so loop which was ideal for an after work ride. After the City Parks and Rec put in the Disc Golf Course, their only goal was to bring people to the park. Co-locating the Disc Holes along the Bike Trail was the easiest thing for them to do... Today the bike trail is almost completely unrecognizable; there are some sections where once was singletrack trail, and now there are 20+ foot paths down the hillside.
The Greenville Spinners at one time used to be the Trail Stewards of Timmons Park before Upstate SORBA ever existed. UpstateSORBA felt this was a great opportunity to create a partnership with the Spinners and the City of Greenville, and hopefully this will be the first of many projects together.
This IMBA Trail Care Crew (TCC) visit to Timmons isn't going to rebuild the Trails at Timmons Park in a day! It will however be a start with a Training Program to get local riders involved and with the TCC's input and instruction on rebuilding some of the problem areas at the Park. We will be looking at possibilities of rerouting some sections where most user conflicts occur between the disc golf and riders, and possibly take the trail to the outer edges of the park property above the disc gold course.
So depending on how many people we get registered for the trail building class & work day we may only get a couple of hundred feet of trail worked in 4 hours... Our goal is to come up with a plan to make Timmons rideable again, and more than likely that will take several trail workdays.
All of the Events Thursday/Saturday/and Sunday are free and open to the Public. If you want to come out and work at Timmons Saturday you must register online and attend the Trail Building Instruction Class that morning.
