I have one of the Burners with painted stays and plan on moving them to a new front triangle.

Can anyone recommend a chemical stripper that'll be safe for the aluminum, and reasonably safe for the user? Will the aluminum oxidize into something that looks good with a white main triangle, or does it need to be polished and sealed?

I have used Jasco Paint & Epoxy Remover on frames before. It allows you to wipe most of the paint off with a rag after it bubbles up. Then you'll need a fine sandpaper to get the rest of the little specs off. Then get some Mothers aluminum polish and you should be good. I wouldn't add a clear coat personally.

A couple of winters ago I felt like dressing up my Burner a bit and went the exact route as described: Jasco remover, fine sandpaper and steel wool, and then Mother's polish. The remover did no harm, still going strong. I didn't strip the entire rear triangle, just the dropouts, but I know it's been done. It's just a ton of work. Check out the pics, I even polished up my rockers a bit.

Sandblasting

Anyone ever try sand blasting a painted rear triangle. I have access to a sand blaster through my step fathers body shop and was wondering if this would totally eat up the aluminum. If not it would save me a ton of work.

Pobably not a good

to use sand as the medium for that process. Sand seems to generate a lot of heat on the metal surface. There are other mediums to use, some are plastic and some are organic, like walnut shells. I think that the other mediums can be used in the equipment that your step father has. Check with the manufacturer of the sand blaster.

Thanks for the follow up guys. Just picked up a used 2002 XCE on ebay for a buddy. It is Spot silver with an orange PC rear triangle. Pretty ugly but I got a smokin' deal on it ($340 with a new RP3). I think I'll go the stripper route if he absolutely hates the orange.
