To make a long story short the cartridge (part the hose nut screws onto) is stripped. The hose nut must have crossthreaded and I couldn't feel it because of the compression bushing. Anyway, I need to get a new one preferably without buying an entire master cylinder. Any ideas where to find one?

PS: anyone know of some really good instuctions for bleeding hayes brakes? I had my first go at it earlier today with the Hayes instructions but I'm not sure I did too well.

One other thing I just thoguh of from my blead experience earlier today... Is it normal for the Dot fluid to spill out all over the lace when I remove the bleed screw from the master cylinder to attach the catch bottle? (yes I had it as the highest point in the system)

If you get a drop or 2 thats normal or if you remove the wheel & install a pad spacer it will push the fluid through.

No really solid instructions, as you found the Hayes instructions are a good referance. Use common sense, practice & tapp on the hose to help the bubbles rise. I dont know how many Hayes i have done but is seemed as though the first 5-6 i learned a new method so now i just mix them all together as needed. I use the squeeze bottle, have tryed the syringe, burp the air out the bottle hose & install it on the bleed screw, it is a bit messy. Then carefully pump the fluid up & out till it comes out clear. It takes 3 hands the first couple times. I have found the hose from Haves does not hold up very well with DOT fluid, go to a pet store & get air hose for fish tanks. It comes in 2 sizes i bought both because i wasnt shure but i found leaving the smaller diameter in the master addaptor then slipping the larger size over, it has a better fit. :)

Well, I got my local shop to order one for me. I'm going to try to save this one, not sure how successful I'll be.

dogon, you have experience with this.. how can I prevent this from happening again?

Also, when I opened the bleed hole on the master it seemed liek alot of fluid came out. It flowed out for like 5 or 6 seconds, running down the bike frame and pooling on the floor. It made a nice mess for me to clean up. So, nto sure why it did that. Mayeb I will have better luck next time.

I havent striped the guts yet, just being as carefull as popssible threading the nut down, make shure the compression fitting is butted almost to the master. As you can see the threads are very fine so you dont want anything preventing the nut from catching its threads beffor compressing the ferul. You can try plumbers tape depending on how bad the master threads are it might just barely hold together, dont use alot of force to tighten the nut, 1 finger only for tightening.
