Seems like there would be a lot of space to do something really nice in this area?

Lots of parks, lots of open terrain, with bluffs, trees, hills...

Why is there not more trails?

Afton Alps has lots of hill action, what about some solid single tracks?

Lake Elmo park has some double track, but shares with horses, which is just great.

MORC, has there been any talk about doing something? I'd be interested in helping out.. I'd think there would be quite a bit of interest?

:)

There haven't been any opportunities out that way yet. MORC is always keeping their eyes out as best we can, but nothing so far. Lake Elmo probably will never happen from what I've heard. We've tried to work with Afton to upgrade their trail system, but they aren't interested in an upgrade at this time. MORC also finds it easier to work with public parks instead of private entities like a ski hill. We've already helped develop a trail on a former ski hill near Rochester and then the land was sold and mtn biking was done. Parks offer a more stable relationship.

I think the main things MORC would like to see in the future is a trail opportunity in the North East metro which is the last area without one. MORC would also like future trail opportunities to be of the scale of Leb, Murph, or Elm Creek. Hopefully future projects are in the 10+ miles of trail variety.

If someone sees a realistic opportunity for a major trail on a good chunk of land, please contact MORC. Not just a park, but a park with good soil, good topography, the space for a good trail system, and a land manager that would be open to a mtn bike trail in their park.
