Anyone know of a standard QR that has a little more bite to help stiffen up the front end on a standard fork?

I have read that the DT Swiss QRs are supposed to help, but wanted to see if anyone is using them and if they really made a difference.

Any other suggestions for an older Reba?

Hi,

how does this rws thru bolt thing work really? I tried to look through the dt swiss site but I just don't get it...

To replace a QR hub axel (not possible with the "cup and cone" type bearing I guess?)?

Or only to use a 20mm hub in QR fork?
The DT Swiss RWS is really a thru bolt with its own wrench and release. It can only be used with a hub meant for a thru bolt. DT also make a standard 5mm. "skewer" with the same ratcheting mechanism for standard hubs:

I have the DT Swiss bolts. I like them. I haven't used a true quick release in years. Before this bike, I used these Ringle bolts that you spin into place much like the DT Swiss parts. I like to think it stiffens up the front end a bit.

Anyone know if I can convert my Hayes Superlight Hubs (DT 240's) to the 9 mm RWS system? I'd really like to add those skewers to my Supercal.

Yes- you can. You need the 9mm end cap kit (same as the 240S kit) and 100 X 9mm RWS. Your local bike shop can get these items from BTI or QBP.

.........or if your buh manufacturer doesn't make a 9mm end cap, but the hub does have the clearance (pressed in sealed bearings) then you can get a machine shop to drill out the standard QR to 9mm and that will work fine also - this is what I did with my Hope Pro2 front huub since as of right now they don't make a 9mm end cap, just QR 5mm, or 20mm TA. The DT RWS definitely stiffened up the front a bit and improved steering with the REBA, but it's no replacement for a real TA. Wouldn't run a normal Qr again after using the DT RWS, they're just that simple, cheap and easy solution instead of a QR.
