I have XTR thumb shifters, & on the front derailiur shifter, when I shift up to a larger ring, the large(thumb) shifter is sluggish returning to it's position. Cables look good, so I assume it's internal to the shifter itself. Is there a way to service or clean these(that isn't rocket science)?

My rear Deore shifter was sticking when I used the multiple gear shift down(click, click, click), I just undid the bottom cover and sprayed some lube in there and it is working fine now. NOt sure if the XTR is the same setup.

Searches can do wonders....and it doesn't sound like you have thumb shifters, you probably have rapidfires... http://forums.mtbr.com/showthread.php?t=66150&highlight=shimano+shifter+clean

Thanks guys. That's what I needed.
And yes, they are rapidfires, I just inapproiately used the label thumb shifters as opposed to twist type. My mistake.
