Hello All,

I was given an Alpinestars Almega XT for free and I was hoping to revive it. The original aluminum handlebars broke so I ordered a replacement as well as a new stem. It seems like 2 stems and even the spacers are about .5-1mm at most too small. Nothing fits that I've purchased seems to fit on the fork steerer. I've tried sandpaper and even a grinding stone to shave off just enough to get the stem on, but have failed.

tired and frustrated Im ready to throw this bike in the trash, except I really like it. Any ideas?

Old alpinestars...did they do 1-1/4 Evolution size headsets ? Could be that.

also, its hard to tell from the pictures, but is it a threaded headset? Looks like maybe a lockring on the top.

That's what I was thinking. Looks like a lock ring at the top from an old style threaded steerer. Underneath the cable hanger at the 8 O'Clock position is that the corner of another Hex that would be on the upper bearing race?

I see no threads on the steerer. Did you thread the nut down or did it just drop down a smooth tube?
