What stem lengh are most of you using. I ride a 05 16" Reign 2 and have a long travel Lyric fork on it. I was wondering if I should get a shorter stem and how that would effect the setup. I ride aggressive trails pretty much all downhills but need to earn them too. I, up until recently have been running the factory 90mm stem but have borrowed a 70mm was is still ok. Wondering what the advantages of a shorter stem are and whether I should go for 60-65mm or something. What you think?

I tried a shorter stem (90mm) on my 05 Reign, but felt like I was way too cramped and always felt near to going OTB. Didn't like it at all. Also tried a 100mm, 105mm and 110mm. Eventually ended up on a 120mm and like it a lot.

Disclaimer: I'm 6'5" and ride an XL (21") so my fit may not mirror yours.

A shorter stem makes the cockpit shorter, moves your weight back, and makes steering faster. Better for downhill.

A longer stem makes the cockpit longer, moves your weight forward, and makes steering slower. Better for uphill.

The choice should be based on the bike's fit, how it feels, and what your intentions are.

Going from a 90mm to 70mm seems like a large change to me. If it feels right to you maybe your frame is sized on the large side for you so the shorter stem makes sense.
Make sure your saddle is in the right place before you decide.
