Looking at buying a 2nd hand fork for my Surly,
I know that the headtube length is 134mm, the stack height of my headset is 27.5mm and the steerer length of the one I am currently looking into is 203mm which should mean that there is exposed steerer of 41.5mm.

The question is, will this be enough. I currently run about 20mm of spacers on my NRS which has a similar HT length so I am thinking it may not. Is there a general rule of thumb I can work by??

Thanks

What is the height of your stem?

Have you measured your stem height? This will definitely determine if this fork will work for you or not. Also, keep in mind that you should shorten the steerer tube a bit to allow a gap between the top of the stem and the top of the steering tube. I have always heard that the gap should be around 3mm. So this fork may work, you just might not be able to run spacers. The following link has some good info about determining steerer tube length.

Hope this helps and good luck!
