Uhhh... I've got a set of 240's on my road bike with butt-loads of miles and never a problem with the alloy freehub body. I've never known anyone with a set of DT-Swiss hubs running their alloy freehub bodies to have issues.

Are you anticipating a problem? Just make sure you're running a cassette with a full carrier and you'll be fine.

I've been using the equivalent steel freehub on my 240 and it works great. $100 is a lot of money unless you have a great reason to do it though. I only switched to steel because I wanted a specific gearing setup that isn't available in a full-carrier cassette

Thanks for the reply. The unavailability of a cassette with a full-carrier for my gearing choice is the same reason I want steel. I have notched up the aluminum freehub bodies on two of my DT rear hubs to the point where cassette removal does not make one smile much as he wipes the sweat from his brow with bloodied hand.

Hey boomn,
Was it difficult to press the bearing into the steel freehub body?

Thanks

At least for the 240 there are no bearings to press in. It comes completely ready to go with all the bearings already installed

Actually, the 240 version does come with a black aluminum dust cover on the outside that needs to be removed. I don't think the 340 will come with this
