Stan's Alpine (with what hubs?)

Just got 2 of these for an XC build I'm about to put together. Weights were on target (and a little bit under) for both, and they were the same weight for both rims. As I'm going for a stealth look I removed the stickers and saved 2g/rim (wowee :p )

Inside rim width is 20mm, outside is about 23 or 24, which is per the initial reports.

Also I'm wanting an opinion on a good set of hubs. I'm thinking of the newer type of AM classics, but I'm not sure on their reliability

I am getting a set of Alpines with AM Classic front HUB and ZTR rear, should be in soon. Went with the AM Classic for the front as it is very light and was a slight price increase in $ over the ZTR. Stuck with the ZTR for the rear as the weight penalty over ztr was very minor and not worth the $ imo. DT Rev spokes btw. I am told this build weighs 1325 w/o yellow tape/valve.

What are the changes for the 010 AM hubs? Anyone know?

New Alpine Wheelset

Here is my Alpine wheelset. I went with AM frnt and ZTR rear hubs. I have'nt even mounted and ridden them yet so I have no ride report. Should be a very reliable wheelset as long as I keep them true. Total weight was 1335 as weighed by Stans. IMO this wheelset is a good value/weight combo especially considering I got 2 free tires of my choice when I ordered from my lbs.

They're probably all alloy, but that's his homage to SLR's:D

Still in the process of getting stuff together, and more importantly choosing spokes. I am torn between something simple like revolutions, slightly more exotic with CX-rays, or we have a local builder in Melbourne who specialises in Marwi plain guage Ti spoke builds. The WW in me says the Ti (and I do have the opportunity to test a friend's set) - and I am hoping the large flanges on the AM classic hubs leads to a shorter spoke and less flex.

Alex: I don't think the Marwi plain gauge spokes will be lighter than Sapim CX-rays. Sapim CXrays are very light. The only ti spokes that are lighter and commonly available is the Pillar PST1422. I have a set built with those. The stiffness is still good. Not as good as say CX-rays, but on par with the thinner gauge DT swiss revolutions that Stans notubes build his ZTR Race wheels with.

I am also planning of ordering a set of wheels with Alpine rims and AC hubs.

I don't know which spokes to choose, Revos or Cx-Rays. What is the difference between them?

I ride xc and marathon races on a Ti Mojo LTD hardtail and I weight 166 lbs.
OK, the main difference to look at is that the CX-ray is bladed (more like ovalised though) and the revolution is round.
They are about the same weight for equal length spokes, with CX-ray about 10g lighter for 64.
Where they differ is stiffness and fatigue life. Revo's are usually used only for race MTB and road wheels, wheras the CX-ray have been used in DH wheels by the likes of 5 or 6 time world champ Nico Vouilloz.

Most people's choice would be the CX-ray

the Marwi Ti spokes are lighter than the Sapim's.

aside from my first hand experience try the speedgoat.com website and look at their wheel builder section. Build a wheel with both spokes, you will see the difference. They list real time weights as you build.

Anyone have Marwis on a scale.... I saw Limon had some b4. Maybe he has 32 to weigh.
marwi ti spokes for american classic hubs and olimpic rims 3 cross weigh 116g for 32 spokes. if I was going to build them again I would go 3 cross disk side, 2 cross rear drive side and 1 cross left front side for more savings.

For my Mavic , Hope Pro 2, Marwi is 1330g = not uber light but around 690$ for the entire build. I have been thinking Stans Rims for a while.. I believe my spoke length is 262 = I am curious if any of you whom actually build wheels or know how to use the spoke calculators.... Know what length a hope pro 2 too Alpine would need.. Trying to save cash everywhere I can.... Wedding/ and a crazy mother in law our killing my hobby

Assuming you are running 32 spokes 3x:
Front left: 258mm right: 259.8mm
rear left: 259.2mm right: 258.4mm

262mm spokes will be too long and the threads will bottom out.
