Having had two Nevegal casement failures, one where the bump popped like a balloon, and having established through my previous post that I'm not the only one to have this problem, both using Stan's and standard tube setup, I'd like to hear if there's another tire with the Nevegal's positive points, i.e. grip, air-volume, relative light weight for such an aggressive tire, and easy to set up with Stan's (can go over a week without needing air). I ride steep, twisty fire trail with hard pack, loose dirt and small sharp rocks.

Weight: 190 lb.
Bike: Titus Racer-X (full suspension).
Wheels: Cane Creek WAMs (UST, but with Stan's rimstrip instead of the stock plastic), 25 psi front, 30 psi rear.

I LOVE everything about the Nevegals--they corner like they're on rails, they're cushy but stable at low air volume, and they have a durable, wide, rock-resistant tread--except for the nagging concern that one might explode while cornering at high speed.

I ran Panaracer XC's UST and blew a knob of one and the side wall of another, since I switched to Nevegals, no problems.

Point is the casing failures and Stans seem to be a very hit and miss thing??

My only concern with the Nevegal is weight, 710 g and the Continental Explorer 650 g.

I think I'll try the continetal next but if it blows a knob I am back on Nevegals.

I am on my 10th or 12 Stans/Kenda with no problems since I had one go bad early last year...

So far the failure rate has been more than acceptable, since during that same time I have also gotten a crooked tire that was covered under warrantee. I figure one in ten tires will suck.

I'm surprised no one has chimed in to decry Stan's for eating away at your tires. I'm not going to be that guy--I love my Stan's.

I also love my Nevegals. A lot. I've had a few pairs of them. But you're looking for a substitute, and I think I have a good suggestion for you.

I have used the Maxxis ADvantage 26x2.1". It hooks up great in a variety of conditions, is of comparable weight to the Nevegals and Stan's up with ease.

I would recommend the ADvantage just about as much as the Nevegal--I think they ride very similarly.
