Has anyone else experienced stanction wear on rock shox lyriks? I’ve been running this set for about a year and 3 months. I admit I ride alot usually about 750,000 + feet of climbing a year but I do a lowers tear down every single month to keep on top of them and a couple of damper rebuilds along the way. I like to keep things well serviced and get my use out of things. It’s hard to show in the photos but both stanctions have lines about 4” long in them from the gaps in the bushings and the first inch or so on both sides is starting to get pretty worn looking all around. It seems you can’t even buy lower leg bushings for rockshox anymore so I guess I either try for warranty or they are for the spare parts box. Just wondering if anyone else has experience with this or indeed tried to warranty a set like this and been successful? I bought a new set as I need the bike running right and the wear was annoying me but I’d still like to salvage these in some way.

None on mine, been running mine for 3-3.5 years and put about 100 miles on them a week and service them about every six months. So far the fork has been reliable and problem free.

You've been listening to Mike on the Pink Bike Podcast too much. Stanchion, no T after the C.

That wear is most likely from dirt and debris caught in the wiper seal. It happens sometimes, even if you regularly service. Sometimes you get unlucky and sh!t just gets caught in there.

You say the marks follow the grooves in the bushings, but the lighter colored lines don't look straight in the pictures. Looks like a pretty random pattern, actually. Appears more like something smeared on the surface rather than worn away material. Is that just the pics? Can you feel the surface dipping lower where the marks are?

The pictures aren’t great but they are definite straight lines on the stanchions, right at the front behind the crowns the stanchions are very silver
Okay thanks for that clarification. Sounds like metal to metal wear at the upper bushing. For some reason the layer of oil that should be maintained between the bushing and stanchion tube is not being maintained. Could be too much of a gap between them as someone previously mentioned or low lube level.

From what I can tell this looks like something was captured in the seals at some point.

Stock Yari on my back showed signs of wear on the brake side stanchion, it looked very different however. Just the anodizing fading towards the lower part to the stanchion. From solid black it faded to a grey-ish silver near the wiper seal. No markings or scratches, a very smooth and uniform fade of color.

It had about 9.000km when I noticed it. Fork worked as always, but eventually got replaced because I needed something better performing.
