Have you opened any bottles of brew with your medals yet??? Great job all you guys!!
Congratulations

If I'd known that was you guys, I definitely would have heckled louder.

I'd say props have to go out to the guys from Kenwood Cyclery who took third in the Open 4 man, all on singlespeeds. We were camped next to them, and they didn't seem to be laying off the beer (or the smokes for that matter) too much... Seriously hardass

My team the Bay City Rollers took a fabulous 9th (of 11) in the Coed Sport. I did 7 of our 19 laps, all of which were an absolute blast.

Check out this sweet shot of me heading out for one of my laps.

Congrats duders and duddetters. It was funny to hear the crowd understand what QQQQ meant.

I say to my pals: there's a dood out there being all fruity wearing a cheerleader dress, and I want to hug her.
YOu rock!
That's not a Heckler

I agree...that kenwood team is mui macho. Jesse passed me going into the first section of singletrack like I was standing still. Now that you know who we are come give us a cheer QQQQ style (overt lewdness and profanity please).
heh. one nice thing about riding solo ( at my . . .ahem, . . "speed" ) is that you get to see everybody in the event as they whip on by. our man in the flashy skirt, for example, was most fetching as he sweetly and demurely floated past me in the singletrack. and, he reminded me of a little hot, but completely psycho girlfriend i briefly had back in 1977 or so, in that little skirt. nicely done !!

i do not think the kenwood riders are from earth. but, insanely macho as they are, they are also super-cool and friendly to the avg schmoes out there and in general.

scoutdog came good on his promise to give me a push - boosting my sorry ass up one of those long rises just when the 2:1 was really starting to kick me when i was down.

now, get this. where were the 4Q's ?? i think that merry band of near-do-wells lapped me like 5 or six times, but i don't recall seeing them. how can that be? maybe they shouted out to me while i was over at the car, dazed and doggedly trying to put a new light system on, or something? maybe their stealthy and swank black jerseys made them camo, in the night. dunno. congrats again, tho !! great time.

We were all over the place. In stealth mode, that is. It sure was a fun event. I have the very fresh memories in mind. The night riding was surreal. The rock gardens were a whole different monster at night, but we all rocked and we all had a good time.

ENO rocked da HOUS! I did see a very nice Bass Boat Schwinn Tomato Homegrown bike with ENO. It was sweeeeeeet. But my bike is sweeter because it is mine.
Nice job, fellas

but next time, maybe try these for the podium shot:

Here we go again with perpetuating the SS stereotypes....

The AZ QQQQ team wound up one place out of DFL. The WI QQQQ team was several places removed from DFL. What kind of effort is that? They obviously had their priorities all screwed up.

Okay, I'll bite. What's QQQQ stand for?

In addition to the 4Q team, there were a number of my friends that placed fairly well at this race:

1st Place, Solo Pro: Cameron Chambers. His primary bikes (other than racing) are singlespeeds. It's funny... Cam used to show up at local races on a rigid Surly SS in cut off overalls and throw down the gauntlet. Now, he rides for Fisher in full on team gear and throws down the gauntlet. He's still a SSer, though.

1st Place, 4-man Pro: KC Woodchucks. All 4 of these guys ride or rode singlespeeds. In fact, they ride rigid fixed gears. For those of you who have ridden at Landahl in Kansas City, 2 of the 4 riders on this team are the Trail Stewards for this trail system.

1st Place, 12 hour solo womens sport (I think): Elisabeth Carter. Elisabeth is married to Eric, one of the 4 riders on the Woodchuck team. She wasn't planning on racing and came up to be pit bîtch for the 4-man team. She changed her mind and decided to race on a whim.

The obvious lesson: If you hang out with a slow, fat, white guy from Kansas City, you'll receive a bunch of racing karma and wind up winning 24-hour races. The karma is only dolled out if you provide said slow, fat white guy with plenty of tasty beer.

One for Ernesto (HBFK content)
I was at Sam's club yesterday buying chicken and burgers for my daughter's birthday. After completing my shopping, a got in line behind a lady in one of those electric carts with a basket on the front designed for handicapped shoppers. You know, the carts with the extra wide seats that swivel to easy ingress and egress.

The lady was large. As in HUGE! As many of you know, I'm not a small man. She could have easily comprised two (perhaps 3) of me. Her arms were bigger around than my legs at the biceps area. She was do wide that she draped off the seat.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not running her down for being fat. I'm simply setting the mood for the remainder of the story....

I couldn't see around her gelatonious mass to see what she had in her cart. She did however have two preteen sons in tow with her. They too were big kids. Not big as in they'll make good linebackers big, but big as in Eric Cartman cramming down cheezy poofs big. Pale as ghosts at the end of the Summer from playing Downhill Domination big.

As Mom unloads her cart, I notice that the entire contents of her cart is candy. Huge boxes of red hots, bubble gum drops, candy bars and various other type of prepacked, bulk items. Sum total of her shopping trip: $51 in nothing but bulk packaged candy. But wait, there's more....

I buy my burgers, chicken, cheese and a few other items ($61 total, but alas, no candy), load up and push my cart out to my car. I pass the obese lady and her fat ass kids as they're loading (literally) in to their car. First I notice that the driver's seat on the car is bent and contorted. Second, I notice that each fat ass kid has one of the bulk candy packages cradled protectively in their arms.

As I pass, I hear one of the kids say to the other, "This time I'm going to hide them (the bulk pack, 500 count fireball jawbreakers) so you don't eat them all".

Wow. Child abuse, if you ask me.

DFL? what? what are you talking smack about? Is it like the NFL, but with a "D?"

Our priorities for the race (and this was the 1st time our 4Q tam did a 24 hr race) were flat out simple. Taking turns, one at a time for each lap.

This sounds like a precursor to vaginal sand...
puke

Puke all the way man. Damn! HBFK does abound...I am actually eating Skittles and a Coke. Why? because I chose to. I some times crave the sugar to a certain degree. But still, buying bulk candy like that? ugh!

If I were all around national dictator, I'd hunt all fat kids and their irresponsible parents, burn all their lameass video games, and make them run 10 miles per day, and they will eat nothing but rice and drink water.

People are lame.

On the way back from the race yesterday we stopped at McDonald's for coffee. A family of pork was sitting at a booth, and the girl who took my order, she was pork HBFK style. Next time I will carry a box of HBFK t-shirts and hand them off to people who are offended by a healthy lifestyle. I will give them a size shorter...ugh! HBFK all the way.

HBFK women are just not Liz Phair-ish enough.
