Just looking for opinions on gearing for an upcoming race. Its 106 miles
with over 11000' of climbing. Im riding a crosscheck with bonty 2.0's Im playing with 39x17 seems good I also have an 18 and 19 tooth cogs.
Just curious about others input.
Thanks Dan

I rode an on-one pompino for a while as a commuter / road bike with 39/17 on mostly roads and it was able to handle some fairly long climbs, accelerated well, and had a decent average top speed. I am faster now on my commuter with a 2x9 gear but 39/17 was nice. Steep climbs will be brutal but that should climb steadily.

42x19 on my CC, but with 700x43's so we've got essentially the same gearing. Haven't done any long races though. I'm planning on one next year.

Ya its for the Chino grinder. My morning commute is 12 miles with 2000' gain so some pretty steep climbs and the 39x17 is good .The race route is all long gradual climbs so im thinking it should be fine. Heck I did 74 miles 7000' on me road bike last weekend
at 53x21.

If they're gradual climbs, then you should be good. Last year, I did a metric century on the fixed roadie with 7,400ft climbs but climbs were definitely not gradual. I was geared 48x18. So you should be good with that lower gearing.
