Not a brain buster, but I am currently running 32:16 on my SS 29er, and it is right on the money for me. I recently got a wheelset built up with a White Industries Eno Eccentric Hub and am going to get a WI Eno Freewheel. I want to get one of the trials freewheels but it only comes in 18t. Is there anything that I need to look out for going with 36:18? I know its the same ratio, and that I will need to lengthen my chain.

se michigan... a bunch of short, fairly steep hills. makes for great xc trails.

I second that....32:16 is a rather tall gear for a 29er, your trails must be fairly flat or your super human dude.:)

I like to think a little of both... :) . 2:1 is fairly common for those of us who like to try and go fast. We don't have any climbs longer than 1/4 mi or so. But some of them get to be pretty steep with a good number of roots and rocks in the way. I have even been thinking of going to 34:16 for my next upcoming race. I haven't been on this course before, so we will see how it goes...
