I'm looking to build up a fully rigid single speed for kicking around town (maybe 75 percent of the time) and hitting the mellow trails at 18rd and Loma for the other bit. I will be riding 2.3 semi-slicks.

I am curious what gear combos others are riding for bikes that do double duty. I will put a 32t on front and was hoping to avoid a handful on cogs for the back that collect dust, especially if I go for the sexy king cog.

BTW, I'm not set on SS so I might end up with a 1x9, but thought I'd try it first and add the pieces later if needed.

32x16 is good for me on those trails and in town, although I wouldn't want to ride from town to those trails with that ratio! I'd say grab yourself a 16 and a 18 and give it a go.

Assuming 26" wheels, I agree on the 32x16. If you are building a 29er, 32x18.

I run a 32x18 on a 29er at LL, 18Rd, Loma, and RV. Works great at all of those places. Just cruising around town it is alright, but riding to the trails, it can be a pain in the ass spinning out.
