I am trying to figure out how the X9 triggers differ from the XO. I have not looked at shifters in several years and the newer X9 triggers look on the surface to be clones of the XO without the carbon bling. Are there any functional differences in how they operate, adjust, or perform. Dollars are nor a major issue, but I just prefer the stealthy look of the X9's.

The X-0 has bearings and the adjustable position long lever, the X-9 uses bushings and the long lever is not adjustable.Other than that, just the blinginess.
Bushings I can live with, but does the adjustable position lever make the XO easier to set up "just right" ? Better yet, has anyone out there found this to be a limitation in setting up their X9 triggers?

naw, x9 gets the job done no complaints. the x0 is that last 10% better, but for real performance, not a big deal.

I haven't ever held to the two side-by-side, but I definitely have tweaked the lever on my X0 to get the most comfortable position. The out-of-the-box setting wasn't comfortable for me, and I am happy that the lever can be moved around to get it right. If I had been stuck using only that stock lever position, I definitely would've returned to a twisty.

Cheers, Chris

I have them both on different bikes and there is a feel and a performance difference in my opinion. The advisability of the levers are very nice and the XO is smoother. I would agree that the difference is like 10% to 20% better, but the cost is 50% or more...... If you really want a great shifting setup go with the XO, but if you get the X.9s make sure to get the 07 version because there is a big difference between the new X.9 and the old ones.

What, exactly, is the difference between these two years making the '07 better?

The >2007 SRAM X-9's are essentially a downmarket X-0, with less weight, bushings instead of bearings, and no adjustable position release lever.

yes, one to save weight and two to save space and also, there uneeded.

why have a carbon shifter and stick a pretty display on it? itd eat up at-least 20grams probably more  hence defeating the point of carbon??? afterall the savings from the XO are relatively small

when ur at this level you should just 'feel' what gear your in, afterall XO isnt gearing for a wafty few laps around the lake with the wife is it?

x-9 vs. x-0 triggers

I've been running a set of xo triggers on my main bike and a set of x9s on my backup/loaner ride, and I'd agree that the differences are palpable but not huge. The x-0s are perhaps a bit smoother, but the main make-or-break feature for me is the adjustable big trigger, which I really prefer. That said, x-9 still works really well for the money.

Sorry for kicking an old thread, but i felt like this was the most appropriate spot to ask.
Can i replace the long lever on an X9 with the one from an X0?
The top caps are interchangeable, but it looks like the screw that holds the lever in place is longer on the X9.
Anyway, i don't just want to give it a shot cause i face the threat of ending up with a malfunctioning X9 as well.
In case you wonder why i want to try this: i had a broken X0 shifter, and bought a single X9 as a replacement. It would be kind of neat if they looked the same again.
Thanks in advance!
