So I'm running a full SRAM drivetrain on my Turner, and love it. X9 shifters and rear, X gen front. But upgradeitis is rearing it's head again, and while the fiance is away for the week, the temptation to whip the X9 stuff off and replace it with X0 is strong. But is it worth it? Is the upgrade in performance worth the $350-$400 it'd cost to have a new rear derailleur and triggers shipped to me? Are the durability issues resolved?

Perf wise I didnt see a diff between the X9 and X0 rear derailleurs. But I absolutely love the X0 trigger shifters, never used the X9 but the customization and being ablle to adjust them in such a wide positioning makes them just insanely comftorable. They also shift like butter and if the X9 do anything close to their ability then it really probably comes down to comfort and style of which shift style you think youll like. 3 of my friends after riding my X0 triggers swapped out their XTR's, mainly casue of tjhe tigher shifitng but also great feel and comfort.

you already have X9, is it worth it to upgrade? short answer IMO is no. The derailleur you'll never know the difference unless you are looking at it, the triggers are better than the X9s, but unless you are having problems with the position of the "pulling" paddles there's no point.

If you where building a new bike and wheren't removing working X9 components, I might offer a longer explanation on why it isn't worth it, but I could see the argument for X0.

discalimer: I don't frequently get upgradeitis. I generally only replace stuff when it's worn out or broken. Only time I replace a working part is when it's on clearance and I can move the old part to another bike.

I can think of a lot of better ways to spend $350-400; starting with putting it in the bank for your next bike.

On my new bike i've got x9 rear and xgen front - the shifters are going to be X0 because the X9's were out of stock (for free!!). They look cooler but they are exactly the same in performance.

I wouldnt bother personally, its alot of extra money, its only bling bling!

I have ridden X9 and X0

I think the XO shifters are a touch better with more adjustability; however, they are not that much better than X9. It was an expensive upgrade that I wouldn't have done if I knew I would have gotten such a modest performance improvement. The rear derailleur upgrade is an absolute waste of cash. I got a X9 rear derailleur for $65 and the X0 was $150. Both great internet deals. The X0 is prettier but not better at any level. There! My unbiased opinion. Laugh.

If your running short or med cage rear deraill you may have reason to for for the X0 since the carbon fiber stuff is supposed to be stronger and more resistant to getting bent on a bad rock fall. The long is still alum so I dont think gives you any added strength benefit.

Also once the 2007 stuff hits last years 2006 X0 is this years 2007 X9 so if you can wait you might score a fair deal once the new stuff comes...

Isn't that supposed to change for the '07 models and X9 triggers get to be the same as X0 as far as adjustability goes.

You'd have to be barking mad (or just very rich). You'd have to factor in the cost of a rear view mirror too, so you could gaze at the beauty of your rear mech while riding along ;)
