Those two are not even in the same league. I go no higher than X7 when I get a rear der, but I wouldn't touch anything less than X7 with SMT's stick...well, you get my meaning.

When it comes to rear derailleurs to smash against rocks when going downhill fast. X7 shifters with an X5 RD might be a better option ie cheaper.

yeah..hate to smash that carbon cage on a rock..it think it would be better to get an X9 shifter then an x5 RD wouldnt it if you wanted a non carbon RD cage.?

I'd go with X.7. They're solid and cheap. I prefer X.9 shifters, but an X.7 rear mech is great if you're riding real aggressively and don't feel like ponying up alot of cash for breaking one every couple of weeks/months.
