Using SRAM for the first time this season. I love the way the X.O grips work for the rear. Precise positive shifts. BUT the front is not what I had in mind. Hard to find the sweet spot fo the shift. Feel like I'm using some sort of old school road bike shifter.
3 gears but like a million clicks. Miss that quick trigger action from my Shimano.

What adustments can be made? Switch for front trigger?

Hmmm

I switched from X-9 triggers to X-0 twisters to get better trim adjustment on the Xgen. There are 3 clicks per chainring though I have never noticed that they slow down or hinder shifting, in fact, they shift so well that I do my best to spread the gospel of twistology. Two things to check: Is the cable routed correctly on the Xgen (some folks with triggers clamp the cable further outward to get better throw, make sure the shop didn't set it up incorrectly for you). Second, make sure you aren't "babying" the shifter, i.e. deliberately clicking through the stops rather than twisting that thang! I have been riding offroad for a longggg time and have used every shifter that's been out with the exception of S**** dual controls, and can honestly say that this generation of SRAM is the best shifting FD & RD that I have ever ridden. I hope that you get yours dialed in because I am sure you will come to love it.

think I was babying...

Been trying to rip through the twist more and getting better results. The clicks of the twist was throwing me off. Now that I got more aggressive with my shifts seems to be more comfortable. Thanks.

Hi, has the same problem, FD gripshift not precise like trigger. Do u think if i change my XT FD to Xgen will solve the problem?
Am not sure whether my bike mech has set it correct. He told me shifting FD wit grip is more like "feeling"
This is my first time using gripshift. Has been riding for 20+yrs and to discover that Shimano is not everything!:D
Thk you again for yr attention. cheers!:cornut:

Fundamental Difference

My experience with X-9 & X-7 triggers for the FD has been that they are like RD index shifting, i.e. you push the trigger & the chain drops/raises to the chainring. I still run friction shifters on my road bike so indexed shifting, especially FD indexing, is like the difference between manual & automatic transmissions. Twist shifters for the FD are not going to be as "precise" as a trigger because twisters provide some ability to trim the FD. Over time I have developed a feel for the FD and can pretty much hit the chainring I want even when I am in "a spot of difficulty" (sorry, too much Phil & Paul and the TDF). I doubt if changing from Shimano to SRAM will change what you are experiencing. The long and the short of it is that only you can choose what you want out of your setup. If you miss the automaticness of triggers, run a trigger on the FD & a twist on the RD.

Guess i have to "feel" the gripshift for the FD and get use to it, or as u might have suggest, change to a trigger shifter. Thank you for yr inputs.
