And who rides with their chain off? :D

Seriously, while I'm no expert, I do ride with a SRAM ceramic bottom bracket on my road bike. It feels very smooth and weighs a few grams less (I think around 20) than the standard one. I was looking for a smoother feel and I think it's smoother but it's very subjective and possibly influenced by the extra money I spent so take it with a grain (or LB) of salt.

I just use a regular XTR bottom bracket on my MTB. Feels ok to me.
Your buddy needs to remove the SRAM BB and install a Shimano/Race Face/Hope, ect.

The SRAM BB uses different size bearings on the non-drive side when compared to the drive side, and is only compatible with Sram/Truvativ cranks.
my fsa spins for a turn and a half and comes grinding to a halt. worst crank/bb ever.
Enduro BB bearings

Hi vizsladog,
Well I dunno about SRAM's ceramic GXP BB, however I'm very happy with an Enduro ceramic bearing-kit that fits the GXP cups. After 2 years and lots of abuse, those BB bearings still spin for what seems like forever. And from memory, Enduros came a lot cheaper than the SRAM GXP stuff. Hope this helps.
