I have a 2013 Spearfish that utilizes a PF30 bottom bracket. I just bought a Sram s1000 (pf30/bb30) crankset. My issue is that the spindle appears to be too long to work with my bottom bracket, at least without using a large amount of spacers.

I admit that I'm not well versed in all of these newer bottom bracket standards. Can anyone provide me with any info as to what I'm supposed to do at this point to make this crank work with my frame? Thanks

I think I've figured it out. Was able to find out that it came off of a Cannondale of some sort that had a pf30. I am missing what I believe is a 15.?mm spacer.

I recently went through the same issue. I bought a SRAM OEM carbon 2x10 BB30 crankset on ebay, and the seller did not include the spacer. After digging around, I found this picture (Wolftooth website) that shows which spacer you should use depending on if you have the long or short spindle. FWIW, mine was the short spindle, and uses 9.11 mm spacer.

The SRAM spare parts catalog has the part numbers for the spacers:

11.6115.533.010 - Spindle Spacer, BB30 - Drive Side 9.11
11.6115.533.020 - Spindle Spacer, BB30 - Drive Side 15.46

I had a few 2.5 mm spacers for 68mm bottom brackets and some 0.5mm Wheels Manufacturing spacers that I stacked up to get 'close enough' to 9.11 mm. Use the threaded adjuster to take up the remaining play.

Same thing happened to me when switching from a Specialized oem crank (S1250) to a Truvative XO. Fortunately I got some help in another thread and one of the things that helped me visualize the difference was this picture from member cborrman. Hope it helps.

Edit: FWIW, I needed a 13mm spacer and was able to find one easily on eBay.

Hey MTBeing, I'm trying to go from the oem s-1250 to an X9 on my '12 SJ Evo and finding out about the spacer difference issue. Did the XO work alright for you? I'm trying to understand why the OEM would use a long spindle to begin with?

Me too, why do OEM use such a long spindle. I bought a xx1 crank for and epic to swap out a sram s2000. It fits, but it is tighter around the bb. Width at the pedals is the same

Sorry for the late response. No it didn't work out. The spindle was too short and I had to sell it. The BB was wide and thus the need for the long spindle. I've since sold that bike and I can't remember the BB shell width. I thought I did the math right when I ordered a sized-down spacer but even that didn't work out. I *might* have purchased a crank designed for a 68mm BB shell if that's even possible. Then again this all could be Spec proprietary stuff.

It actually worked for me once I figured out that the X9's needed a narrower spacer than the stock OEM one. The X9 crankset with the short spindle is now installed and working fine on my '12 SJ EVO. Not sure what the deal with the longer OEM spindle is -- just to confuse us I guess.
