I bent my 980 cassette, and my LBS put a 950 on in its replacement. I told them I would like equivilant or better than the 980. Did I get screwed?

Yes....
Sram have four styles of 9-speed cassette 950/970/980/990. The 950 being the lowest quality, and the 980 being the secong best. I wouldn't accept it.
