Squeaky Crank

The same thing happened with my GF Marlin. I took it in to my LBS, he tightened the cranks, and the creaks were completely gone....for about 75 miles. There not as bad as before, but I tried to tighten the cranks myself and it didn't work like it did at the LBS. There he tightened the cranks a good 3-5 turns and it didn't look like he tried very hard. When I did it I had to try hard and I could barely tighten it at all. I hope you find out what to do so I can find out too.

If you don't feel comfortable doing the work yourself, you should definitely take it to your LBS. But, as noted by another poster, these problems tend to recur, so you'd be better off in the long run by learning how to do this maintenance yourself. It's fairly straightforward if you have the proper tools. Check the Park Tool site for service instructions.

For a creak coming from the crank / bottom bracket area, I take everything apart, grease all the threads and crank interfaces and then reassemble. Recently, I've started using teflon tape on the BB cup threads.

yea, i have all the tools execpt the bottom bracket remover which i ordered from nashbar. so i tightened the arms up a rachet and allen head thingy and its fine
