Springs Night Ride Wed 2/23/11 -- Red Rocks?

1396 Views 31 Replies 11 Participants Last post by  JOEMTBR COLORADO
It's been a while since we've hit Red Rocks and I'm guessing that the snow/ice should largely be gone from there. I'd be open to just about anything else though if anyone has a preference other than Red Rocks.

If anyone is lurking and thinking about coming they are welcome--we will meet at the 31st Street trailhead at 6:30. We usually ride at a medium pace, but we (try to) wait at every intersection so no one gets left behind. The trails we are riding (if we end up at Red Rocks--which is in Colorado Springs in case you don't know the trail system) are pretty flowy without much technical although there are a couple of rocky sections. Bring trail riding lights and clothing appropriate for riding in cool-to-cold weather conditions. Bonus points for any newbies who bring beer.

Post up if you are coming.

I can do that, Im thinking since we will be down there that i might stop by the jumps a bit in the afternoon to see if i can learn how to get my tires off the ground. Then BBQ again!!!! If anyone wants to join then let me know but i hope a ton of people show up again at red rocks.
Count me in . . .

I hated missing last week at CMSP. Red Rocks should be good for a night newbie. I suspect I'll have something in the cooler . . .

One potential hiccup--my boss is coming to coming to town on Wed and sometimes likes to have a working dinner--he hasn't said anything yet so I'm assuming I'm in the clear.
I should be able to make it. I need to work on my bike a bit tonight. The rear brake is acting up. if I can get that working I'm in.

I had to flip my bike over to adjust the rear caliper because it was rubbing on my last ride. After i got that working it felt like I had no pressure in the line. Later in the ride the pressure came back but the rubbing started up again. Sound like they have to be bled? ..I have been lucky and haven't touched my brakes since I got the bike, besides replacing the pads.

Hitech what time are you going to hit the jumps? I might be able to make that too.
Still suffern from the wisdom teeth blues. Recovery has been slow so pretty sure I am out again.

Thanks everybody for the get well messages! Maybe Pueblo this weekend.

Bummer! Sorry to hear that it's been a slow recovery... I'm going to have to hunt and peck my way around the place without you in the lead. Brian, can you down load the GPS from last time to help with the guess work?

I think this is the ride we did last time. I have never downloaded these back to my GPS. I'll mess with that tonight. There is an annoying Garmin thing where when you bring it back to your GPS is only copies 500 pts. I think that ride was more than that. If anything it will help with the guess work but might not take all of it fromo the ride.

I dont know my way around there either so I'm not in the lead for sure. I'm thinking about going to the jump around 3 or 4 I need all the practice I can get. Then over to BBQ and a beer anyone is welcome to come coaching is helpful for all you jumping folks.
I've ridden there a few times (good place to take my son), so I may be able to help with guide duties. Also, I think there are now maps at all the major intersections.

Just having that map will be pretty helpful with the GPS--even if you aren't able to reload the data. Besides, what's the worst we can get lost? Worst case scenario we end up on the Intemann trail, find ourselves in Manitou and have some margaritas at the Loop--that wouldn't be the end of the world. :)
national margarita day

That would be appropriate since today is National Margarita Day..

Don't think I can make it; I've got a training client until 6:30 pretty far from there. Anyways, I got in over 190km of night riding this weekend, so I'm good. If anyone wants to ride during the day tomorrow or Thu I'm free (I can night ride Thu too).

As of last Thursday, everything I saw was dry. I didn't hit a couple of the steep-sided trails, so there may still be a small bit of ice lurking, but I'd be surprised if there werent totally dry lines on every section of trail given the warm, sunny weather we've had since then.
Mmm, dreaming of sticky fingers!

How was the BBQ?

It was REALLY TASTY! We went walking in the door at 9:28 and and they close at 9:30, but they said come on in and we will get you some food and beer. I was a bit surprised seeing i have worked in a place that served food, I always hated "that guy". You know the one that come in with 1 minute to spare and orders the whole left side of the menu.

Now the ride on the other hand.........other then forgetting to charge my light and it dieing on me about a hour into the ride, it was a good time. Road a new trail, went off a sweet jump (which at night is really scary) and rode down a fun roller rock (thanks K-man for pointing that out) and last but not least was beat by the tight left at the quarry......again. Over all i give the night a 10 a F'ing 10.
