I've got a Spot SS Cross bike. I love it, although I haven't done any cross on it. In fact, it has never been offraod and I don't see that every happening. I bought it with the express purpose of riding on the crappy roads here.

It rides and handles great and fits me like a glove. The paint quality is decent. Mine is a flecked finish that has held up pretty well. the decals are not clear coated and they haven't held up so well.

Where do I begin....

I love mine! The handling is quick, ride smooth, but not to soft. The bike seems to do everything really well. Not sure what specifics you want to know, feel free to PM me. Michael at Spot is killer too.

Anyone here run a Spot frame? If so, I'd be interested in hearing what you like and don't like about it. Thankx in advance.

The sweet Spot

You will not be disappointed with the Spot. They are great handling bikes and nicely crafted. Micheal and Jessica are great people to deal with, both very down to earth. I live in the East and the bike handles the tight, twisty, rooty and rocky trails very well. I have been running mine rigid since I got it 2 months ago and I am loving it. It is a 29er and it handles like any 26" I have ridden, light and nimble.

Spot brand whore,

Matt

By the way I am racing for Spot next year so I am a little biased.

I rode a Spot for about 5 or 6 years - it was my first dedicated singlespeed. They're good no nonsense bikes, and Michael and Jessica are super nice people, which is a bonus.

For the money I think they're good value, but handling and sizing wise, they're still a semi-mass produced bike, so you still get all the compromises that go along with that.

But hey, that's just my 'custom or nothing' bias coming out!

Hard to beat them in their price-point though, and much better than the customs at the same price. If you don't have the extra 300-500 to go custom proper, Spot is a pretty good option.

You can get a custom Vulture for the same price as a Spot frame.

and....

it weighs twice as much!

Sorry, couldn't resist. The bird frames look nice, but way overkill to me. I do like my bike semi-light.

Drop the cash and go SPOT

My first Spot was the best bike I have ever ridden until I sold it... Just to buy another Spot. I had to do the upgrade to disc brakes. That was the only reason I sold my first Spot frame. Great high speed vibration dampening, I can ride this bike all day long without feeling fatigued the next day. One word of advice, order the bike with the disc brake upgrade even if you don't think you'll ever use it. I made that mistake, and had to go without my spot for several months, waiting on my new one to be made with disc tabs. :( The new was was to ship yesterday 11-23-05 I'll post some pictures when it is all done. Also get the frame clear coated before you use it, this will only cost you a few $$ at a local body shop and will keep you frame looking nice for many years to come.
