Spider XVP Front mech rubs on swing arm..

803 Views 9 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  peachy-B
Have a problem with the swing arm on my spider catching the back edge of the front mech when the shock reaches the end of its travel.. Im sure this should not be happening, the mech is an XT top swing dual pull. The spider is an '04 model.

Is anybody else having this problem?

It is the correct mech as specified by Intense so dunno

cheers

Is the Derailleuer sitting too high? Not straight line up with the chain? I have set up two spiders and one 5.5 had no problem.

I'll go ahead and say it's a set screw problem. But the screw problem might be caused because of your spindle length/crank type. Please inform us what BB and Crank you are using and spindle length of BB.
K well Ive posted a couple of photos of the mech here:

Dunno if this helps or not..

The Cranks/BB are shimano hollowtech 2 XT thus integrated bottom bracket.
It is just as if the front mech is too wide  as far as I can tell its not stopping the rear shock acheiving full travel. However it is enough of a problem that it has removed the paint work off the swing arm and has removed some of the black plastic around the stop screws on the mech.

The suggestion that the mech was set too high was (I dont think) not the case. The mech is set correctly as far as I can tell.

Any wiser? Anybody?

I was in the same situation as you were. I too had to cut down the plastic on the XTR FD and it still was never perfect. So....I went older XT model and didn't have any issues.

hmmm.. ok

I guess the older models have a thinner body?
Im confused as to why intense is specifying this mech for their frames then, unless the swing arm design on recent frames has changed to allow for the wider body..

mmm maybe I will ask Intense direct? See what they suggest..

Year of the derailleure shouldn't be the problem. I installed both 950 and 960 F.D. have no problem. From the picture, looks like the front Derailleur is not lineing up right. May be you need to turn the derailleur more to the outside. And I wounder if you have any spacer between the BB and the fame. Should be at least one on Spider.

same problems as the VPX. i have posted quite a bit on this. just get the older model that's not a WIDELINK (shimano terminology) and that should clear prefectly.

old XT (good fit)

(it's very clear)

new WIDELINK (do not use)
