Spider XVP for Clydes

Was thinking about a Spider XVP but was wondering if any clydes were riding it. I don't mean you 6' 2" 200 clydes either. I mean guys like me at 6' 4" 270. Intense says it has a 240 limit but that was to limit the returned frames that were ridden under harder than designed conditions. Their response was pretty vague. They said to test ride one and if I liked it, it would probably work out. Let me know if any fatties have been cruisin the Spider and what you think.

My guess would be no.

I have a Santa Cruz Superlight which has the same listed 240lbs limit. I am down to 225lbs now but when I got the bike last year I was around 260lbs. The bike was great then but now I can tell I was stressing the bike quite a bit. The bike ride very different today then it did 30lbs + months ago. The Spider XVP is the Intense version of the Santa Cruz Blur. From post on this forum the 240lbs limit for those type XC racer VPP bikes is pretty true.

I love my SL but if I had it all to do over again I would have gone with the Heckler (another Single-Pivot). If you want a VPP then I would suggest trying the Intense 5.5 EVP.

Good luck.

Weight Limit

i read over in the Intense forum that new this year the weight limit for the spyder and 5.5 was 220. if you plan on losing a good amout of weight then the 5.5 would be a good bet. if not, you may want to look at something a little burlier like the heckler (although not nearly the climber that the 5.5 is, it will fly down)

Good Luck :D
