I just bought a pair of Specialized MTB Sport shoes (since they didn't have the Comp in stock) and installed a pair of cleats on them for my Crank Bros Candy SL pedals, went biking today and I'm hearing a "creaking" from both shoes on each down stroke and I can actually feel it in the shoe itself, if I switch to my other pair of shoes I have no issue. Could this be it just flexing? I have a pair of Comp shoes already and never heard this before. Almost sounds like I'm walking on top of some chips. Not sure if my LBS will take them back since their return policy is pretty much "if you use them you can't return them" when it comes to shoes since they can't resell them as "new"

Have you tried adding or removing the spacers that go between the cleat and shoe? With my Crank Bros cleats the right shoe has one spacer and the left has none.

I vaguely remember this happening with my specialized shoes when I had CB pedals. I eventually determined it was because of some interaction/movement between the cleat and the shoe.

I ended up moving to SPDs, never had any problem with them.
