Specialized Future Shock

I have a 1993 Specialized Future Shock fron tork on my current ride. It desperately need to be overhauled. Can anyone tell me whether Hippietech Suspensions works on these things? Also, if you have had any first hand experience (don't tell me about your third cousin's boss's daughter's boyfriend's experience please) with Hippietech let me know what you thought about the work they performed for you. Thanks!

A 93 Futureshock will most likely be a RS Mag 21 with a few styling differences.

yeah a mag 21 or mag 20... got a pic of the adjusters on top?
if it doesn't have numbered adjusters, then more like a mag10/30.
rebuild kits come up on ebay, if you keep an eye out.... otherwise, hippietech is the only option. I've heard great things about them through these boards, but haven't used them.

The Specialized air/oil forks never got the negative springs like the Mag 21. At best, it's equivilent to a Mag 20.

Enduro offers replacement seals, and also has a .pdf of the Mag series service manual.

man, I completely spaced that enduro has the seals for these now!:madman: good call!

There was a post on the retro forum sometime back on what people were using to replace the seals in which you insert the pump needle. I wonder if [email protected] has any ideas... hmmm

That's cool dude. I think I'm just gonna send it to Hippietech and let them overhaul it. I would just replace it but unfortunately ther just aren't any good 40mm travel forks made these days. Hey what am I saying...There aren't any bad ones made either. Too bad 80mm would totally jack-up my bike....

Also, does anyone know if it is possible to replace the steer tube on this type of fork? It appears to my untrained eye that it can be done, but I am not an expert. I'm barely even a novice. I'm not wanting to go from 1" to 1 1/8" or vice versa, I am needing to place a longer steer tube in it if it is possible.

It can be done -- that is pressing in a new steerer tube, but it's not reccomended by Rock Shox. I don't know where you'd find just the steerer either.

Your best bet is to find an entire crown/steerer assembly for a Mag 21/20/30/10/Quadra 21/21R off ebay or some other source, like a bike shop with new, old stock.

Great advice...Why didn't I think of that? Oh yeah, I'm not that shock or bike savvy.

Shortening most forks isn't a problem.
