Planning on doing the "Southern Traverse" IMBA Epic in May or June. Did it last summer and ready finally to do it again. Anybody have any report on trail conditions? We have had to put in a ton of work throughout the winter to clear ice damage tree falls so wondering what it is like on the "Southern Traverse". Thanks

ok conditions

A friend and I rode the Traverse this Saturday. There is quite a bit of deadfall but not enough to be a show stopper. The Shenandoah Mountain Tour folks might take care of some of that before your planned ride since they lead the occasional group out there. The only other annoyance was the abundance of leaves blanketing the trail in many sections. Will be nice if/when that clears away (the more traffic it gets the better!) What a beautiful trail though...the downhill at the end is just sublime. I'll probably want to do this ride in the early autumn, right when the colors come out and before a fresh round of leaves covers the trail.
