I am getting a new fork. Need some advice before i go out and get one.

Narrowed my choices to the PIKE and Revelation. Which should I get? Does the 20mm Thru axle really make a difference? Cos going 20mm means a new wheelset for me and it will add to the build cost as I initially intended to keep my current standard 9mm wheel set.

Or shld I try out the '07 offerings from FOX?

The 20mm axle makes a big difference. Much stiffer and more confident steering. The Maxle is a great system, very easy to use.

But the big question to you is, is a little bit more stiff front end worth the price of a new wheelset(or hub if ya don't mind buildin it yourself)?

Knowing what type of riding and bike you want yr fork to go on would help a little here!

Ive just swapped out my Marz AM1 for a Pike 454 Uturn with maxle and the difference between QR and 20mm is huge!

If you have a bike with 5inches or above and hard Trail ride or All Mountain the Pike would definitely be the way to go saving some $$ would be a shame for what you'll miss out on, you can build a front wheel pretty cheap, front 20mm axles don't need to be high specced they are pretty bullet proof, choose good spokes (DT imo) and rim and you'll be on yr way, this would amount to the same cost of waiting for an 07 Fox and the RS will still kick its butt!

Plus the maxle is KISS really easy to use and secure.

I had the same problem five months ago. Anyway, after trying both forks for a week, my decision was to pay more for the Pike and had the front wheel rebuilt. A friend lent me a wheel with 20mm hub to test the Pike with so I was luck in that aspect. If you're a fairly big guy, you may find that the Rev flexes a fair bit more than the Pike on rough stuff.

Everyone on here is spot on. I recently jumped on the 20mm and notice a difference in the steering. It depends though on what bike, what style of riding you do, and what you're going to sacrafice (money on wheel opposed to somewhere else.) Note about the PIKE 454 Air U-Turn. It offers 140mm of travel (as does the whole PIKE series) but if you want a plush ride you'll have to match or put more air in the NEG chamber than the POS chamber. Any time there is more NEG Air psi than the POS Air psi- it will reduce the total amount of travel. You don't loose that much (depends on how much the psi difference is) but I loose about 8mm of travel. The coil versions do not have this problem that I know of.

Hey Trailadvent, I've riding with an AM1 on my Moment and I find that I am getting deflected and am having somewhat of a tough time keeping the line straight on a technical, rocky descent. So you are saying switching to a 20mm would make a big difference? I'm trying to decide if it's worth the extra expense to convert to a new front wheel. It's unfortunate but I have the Crossmax Enduro front wheel so I can't just swap out the hub. If it can solve the deflection issue then it's a big deal.

I will be getting the '07 Turner 5-Spot, so I hope the PIKE is a great match..

The 5 Spot sets up well with both forks. I have been selling both forks for 5 Spot builds lately. For the pure xc person who wont try the maxle, The Rev gets the nod. But, if you want a more precise steering fork for decending + 10mm more travel, the Pike will really do fine. Get it in U-turn that way you can run the front end lower if you choose to. As of this time the 07 5 Spot geometry has not changed from current 06. But Interbike and 07 is a long way off, anything can happen. I went from the Fox vanilla 130 last year to the Pike on my 5 Spot. The extra stiffness from the maxle is a big difference, and the tuning range is quite wide on this fork and well worth it to pay for a new front hub.

While we are on the subject, any recommendations for a shock/fork pump? My old Hurricane (cheap Performance brand) finally blew, i'm looking at the Topeak & the Fox...

Any feedback on either one?

I have used both. I prefer Fox only because of the guage consistency. I have taken a hand full of Fox's check the guage accuracy at 150 psi., out of 6 different Fox pumps, all were within a few psi. of each other. I did not get to do the same with a hand full of Topek's. But vs. Rock Shox & Manitou pumps, they were off by as much as 20 psi. Maybe someone else can comment on the Topeak.
