anybody had luck with an aftermarket ebb to replace the factory ebb?

I have an 09 Solo 9 which I love; I'd probably be replacing it with an 11 this summer if it were not for my ebb problems & lack of Felt response. Anyhow...to get me through to birthday/frame time I need to do something about my ebb. The set screws have worn a few little divots into the ebb & now I can't get chain tension right as it just slips back into the old divot as soon as I pedal. I doubt the niner ebb will work on the bb shell, but I was looking at the Bushnell & Carver bb's...anybody had any luck?

Also considered taking out the ebb & filing the surface smooth, but concerned that the screws would just go further in & not have enough threads in the frame shell to engage??? I really like the Specialized split bb design

everything's in good working order - thanks!

Thanks for all your help. I ended up contacting local Felt dealer with the part numbers you gave me. It took them a few (5) days to "research" parts, but they did get back to me with prices. While waiting for them to respond I took my frame/ebb to friends (non-dealer) shop & he tinkered a bit. We ended filing the ebb surface smooth which maybe removed 1/16" of material...not too much. Cleaned it up & reassembled. Everything seems to be working great now in it's current setting which should get me through until June'ish. I'm not going to mess with it again until I'm ready to replace the frame or buy the wedge style ebb.

Thanks WP...thanks Felt!

Wil, i'm glad you are monitoring some of this talk. I had the same problem that adamant did. Finally after raising some heII on the Felt Facebook page I got some hep. Felt shipped me a wedge style EBB for free (I race for the shop I got the bike at) and we put it in. It's better than the set screw type, but still not great.

I have since given up on the Felt Nine Solo because of the EBB design and replaced it with a Giant XTC1 29er using a half link to get the magic gear combo.

I really loved the ride of my Nine Solo, but because of Felt's lack of customer support I am done with them. Anybody want to buy a 17" Felt Nine Solo frame?

still a Felt fan

I feel bad for starting an anticlimactic thread here since I created & fixed my own problem, BUT...Wil from Felt did come through for me with support & then even checked back with me to make sure all was taken care of weeks later. I appreciate the help & consider that goodt customer service. It sounds like Felt's CS may not have been the best in the past, but they do seem to be fixing that with new personnel.

BTW...my ebb is still holding up fine. I'm a little afraid to take it apart to clean, but for now it's good. I'm still holding out until Summer for a new frame. I'm not crazy about the 2011 red color, but I'm a big fan of the fit/ride on my 09.

i also own a felt nine solo and im having the same issues most have had with this bottom bracket design. actually enough issues to have the bike locked up in the basement for the majority of the summer while i rode my other rig.
im new to the forum thing, i cant pm wpcouch because of the lack of posts i have.
wpcouch can you list those part numbers on here for me?

wil or wpouch did provide me with the correct part number in order for me to get my replacement ebb ordered threw my lbs. i would like to thank him again for being so helpful and professional. i have yet to install the recently ordered part but i am confident it will be a superior upgrade to the original design. the only frustrating part of ordering a replacement part from felt is that its all third party which makes things a little more time consuming. wil, thanks again!

I sent a message via the Felt website 2 days ago and I have not received a reply. I noticed you on the forum and thought it might be worth asking you. I tried to send this as a PM but I'm new to the forum and I can't send a PM until I have 10 posts.

I just bought a 2009 Felt Solo from a buddy. He barely used it and it's almost new. I have a few rides on the bike I'm stoked on the fit and handling. I have not had any problems with EBB yet but I noticed online that people seem to have problems with deformation that leads to creaking and slipping. Additionally, I noticed people have had problems with the set screws stripping and seizing.

I was hoping to get some info on tips for maintaining and adjusting the Felt EBB. Additionally, can you make any recommendations for upgraded or replacement EBB's should I need to go that route? Do the newer models use the same design?

Thank you in advance for your assistance.

Felt Frustration

Emailed Felt customer service the other day asking for a .pdf or any sort of documentation on their Solo 9 eccentric bottom brackets. I enjoy wrenching on my bikes so I want to service my bb myself rather than paying my shop to do it. Got a reply today saying they don't have anything. I know I'm ranting here and the issue's fairly minimal, but it seems that if you spec a proprietary part like that on your bikes you should also have some sort of diagrams or service manuals for the dealers at the very least. Maybe they just chalked that first version (set screws) of the bb up as a design fail and moved on. Pretty disappointed in Felt at this point.

I should say, we have 2 different BB styles available. The set bolt style that came stock in your bike, as well as a wedge style. Both are currently in stock.
Hi, I also have this model, could you post up or send me the part numbers for the available EBB's for this? Also - is the wedge style preferable due to the "divots" created by the bolt design?

Thank you,

Eric
