ride & Expo review

Could it be because of the Sea Otter event last week that most of the vendors didnt have time to get down here?
Nope. After seeing the Expo I firmly believe that it corrects its size based on demand, and demand must be very mediocre. I hit the targeted booths and was outta there in no time. Steve the Nokian tire guy, the WTB booth, a quick stop at Polar HRM, and picked up a pair of
Crocs
The Calfee booth was far and away the nicest stuff there and they stand out like a sore thumb amidst the other vendors.
As for the ride, there were highlights and lowlights. High: nice casual touring pace and get to see sights of L.A. that you usually blow by in a car or would never venture to that part of town to see anyways. Low: LAPD was out like the freakin gestapo, pacing the ride, keeping everyone corraled into a tight pack (can't pass the lead cops), and moto cops buzzed the left of the group about every 1/4 mile announcing "STAY RIGHT!!" on the loudspeaker. Dude. I get it. Chill with the sirens - "BWOOOP!" and the barking of orders.
I'm positive that every moto and bicycle cop was assigned to this ride today. They may have even recruited more for it. I'm pretty sure I saw Nevada, Washington and Arizona PD too. OK maybe not... The bright side to that was that we only stopped for maybe 2 intersections the entire 38 miles, much to the frustration of many a motorist. How often does that happen???

. Great if you're new to cycling. Crappy if you know you can handle yourself on the roads and want to cut loose. Lots of newbie wrecks, hopefully nothing too serious for anyone that went down hard. Overall a nice ride, just a little *cramped*.
Got to meet "Epic Mtn Biker" too after the ride. Cool dude.

PS - "yo!" to the bicycle cop that knew my fur bike from these forums! He hangs out on the Vintage/Retro boards. Nice.
