Me and my girlfriend will be there for our first tribe gathering. We are both new to mountain biking (picked up our bikes a couple weeks ago) and are trying to get into better riding shape by the August gathering. Been trying to ride 3-4 times a week and have been trying to extend our rides (mostly local path and some singletrack - up to 10-15mile rides)... we went to Elk Meadow last weekend and rode in the rain - slightly difficult first rocky ride, even though we stayed off of Bergen Peak and Too Long trails. All of our problems were conditioning related. We may just try Elk Meadow again tomorrow morning just to see if we handle it better the second time. I'd like to find a trail that has a good mix of terrain so we have a good training run in the mountains every weekend (since bike path miles are easy compared to mountain trail miles).
What's the best way for us to be in better riding shape by the Gathering date? Do we have enough time to get into riding shape to be able to follow on some of the rides (I recognize that they say for all levels, but I'm gonna be in the little kid group again, right)? How far should we be able to ride in order to keep up on the trails? We were riding 10+ miles in town and the 6 miles of Elk Meadow trail took more out of us (with sleepy s and paintersbrush or something)... So just trying to make sure we can keep up somewhat. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. (I did see the front range trails threads about noobs riding with their GFs and it seemed helpful - will be trying some of those easy rides too)...
The forums and users here have been tremendously helpful to noobs like us. Thanks for your patience and help as we get up to speed!
Can you descibe your experience with the RX compared to 575 (I know their not for same use).
Also why didn't you get the motolite.
I loved my demo on the RX and thought about the ML but never had a chance to ride the ML.

11 days til the Gathering! Should be a blast... can't wait to meet some of the legends around here. ::grin:: Everyone just camping there? Any ideas about showers etc?
Doing a few final camping checklists for this weekend... Totally excited. Anyone have any ideas as to how the Yeti mtbr users can identify ourselves, or meet up while in Steamboat? Will be nice to put faces to some of these personalities.
Either way, looking forward to the fun. Hope to see you all there!
I will be there, for sure! Can't wait, should be heaps of fun, I know last year's was! How to identify ourselves? Well me... I'm Evan. I ride bikes. Yeti's, in fact. I'll probably take a couple of mine in tow, just in case some bike riding goes down:
Raw 575 (crossmax and XTR - for sale if you know anyone that's looking!)
Turq 303 (just in case some of you guys haven't seen one)
Turq 4X (for the planned stupidity - last year we did high jump contests and barrel races on a DJ... so rad!)
SWEET... I can't wait to see the 303 in person... that bike is incredible looking in the photographs I've seen. The 4X is pretty sweet too... nice stable of bikes!
I'm John... I ride a 575 and my GF rides a Spec. Hope I can clean them before we leave tomorrow...
Well, I forgot to bring the 303 and the 4X, I drank WAAAAAAY to much whiskey Friday night (school was in session, it turns out), had WAAAAAAY too much fun riding Mountain View on Sataurday, bathed in the Yampa not once but twice, ate a bunch of great food, drank a grip of cold beer, and met a gaggle of super baddass peoples.
I had a total blast too! It was good to meet so many cool riders and great people... Good to meet ya Full Trucker and AnthonyS and bikebum (was JDub there?!)... All the people from Yeti were awesome and took great care of us. Lots of great riding, great food and beer and the TEACHER!
Peace to everyone that made it such a kickass weekend and can't wait for next year!
