Well, for me the unthinkable has happened. What was going to be a week of mountain biking around the southwest turned into despair when the bike shop called me today.
I had dropped the bike off for some brake work and figured I would have the bike back the next so that I could get some riding in before vaca started. As I was driving into work the shop owner called and said he had some bad news. GULP! The carbon pivot was pulling away from the frame! Apparently he noticed some flex in the rear end and upon closer inspection found the problem.
Ive had the bike since mid 2004 and Im mainly a xc kinda rider. I had some worries about the pivot when I first bought the bike but as time went by I realized I had nothing to worry about. Needless to say Im worried sick now.
The shop owner called Yeti but hadnt received a call back yet so Im not sure whats going to happen. Will Yeti take care of the problem? Will Yeti deal with a non yeti dealer?
My vacation starts in 4 days so I doubt I'll have anything resolved before then. I guess I'll be stuck around the house driving the wife crazy all week.
Headed to the bike shop first thing in the morning to take pics and see for myself. Will post pics and anything I hear from Yeti tomorrow,

That's been my primary worry with the new Yetis. I think Yeti will take care of you but do call them as soon as possible.

If you're going on vacation and there are some high-end bike shops at your destination, look for rdemos/rentals at those places. For example, I'm off to Breckenridge and a shop there rents Ellsworths Moment/Epiphany and several Rocky Mountains. However, since I have a new bike now, I'm taking it to test the heck out of it.

Keep us posted but the Yeti guys are really decent fellows and genuinely interested in taking care of customers. I would be very shocked if they didn't help you out and I would not be surprised to see those carbon flexpivots go away in the next year or two if more cases like this come up. This isn't the first time for breakage or delamination at that point.

Well, you do have a five year warranty on your 575, and as long as there is no sign of obvious abuse, you will be good to go. Probably will get a new triangle, but it may take a few weeks. Hang in there. The boys at Yeti will come through for you. They always have for me.

Yes, Yeti will deal with a non-Yeti dealer. They are a small company and don't have dealers all over the place (ala Spec., Trek, etc.). They just want to initiate the warranty work with real shops, not individuals. I don't have a Yeti dealer anywhere near me but when I needed warranty work, my LBS made a quick phone call. When I wanted an '06 AS-Rsl, my LBS made a quick phone call. Life's good!

I hope they take care of you, Shawn,

Just Curious - has this happened to anyone else? My pivots look fine, but with a used frame I have no warranty to lean back on (although if my pivots were to fail, I would just pinch my pennies, ride my HT, and buy the 575 new).

I received an email from Yeti this morning when I awoke.I gave them a call and we talked briefly about the problem and the rear triangle will be shipped back today. Obvoiusly they want to see it to make sure there wasnt some kind of abuse going on and then they will take care of the problem.
I was telling Seth that I usually buy a new bike every year and this is the the first bike that Ive actually kept for so long. I did my research when I bought the bike so I knew I was getting a great bike. I also knew it was a great company, I just didnt realize how great:)
THATS what Im talking about,

what went wrong?

I'd be curious what caused it. Can you ask the Yeti folks to comment on what went wrong and what the rest of us should look out for? Could be you just got a lemon. Before I bought I read reviews all over the place, never once found a single complaint on th ebike, only some components like the seat post and the Maxis tires. That's unusual -- I studied just about every high-end bike and no other make had so few complaints.

I've read about 3-4 failures at those carbon flexpivots, only one from an impact. The others sounded like rare manufacturing issues. I would not be too concerned but like the oil level in my car, I'd check the pivots every so often.

Hey guys,

Checking in from NY. Im on this old dia up computer so lets see if I can get this to post. The problem seems to be that the bonding material that was used to connect the carbon pivot to the frame was eroded. It didnt actually break but was pulling out of the frame because the bond wasnt intact.
Im left my contact info in Vegas so Im trying to find Seths number at Yeti here. If the shop actually mailed it withing a day or two of having the bike then it would almost be 2 weeks today.
I'll be back in town late Monday so I have to imagine that the shop should have a triangle back and on the bike by then. Seth said there would probably be about a 24hour turn around time if they didnt find any abuse which I know they wont.
I'll keep you guys up to date. I cant wait to get on a damn bike again!

UPDATE: Talked to Seth from warranty dept. today. They received the triangle on the 14th and shipped a new triangle on the same day. I would imagine the bike shop has probably gotten it back in the last day or two. I'll be picking up the 575 when I return to Vegas on Tuesday WOOOOOT! Thank you Yeti,

Seth is great- very helpful and a genuine guy too. I'm glad they got you taken care of. I think a big ingredient for Yeti's success in the past few years is the customer service. Good marketing, products, and race success brings in business but good customer service makes for loyal customers.

I'm happy this worked out so well. We need pics again.
