Hehe that was an interesting read of her experience! Sad to hear she won't give it a second go at it, then again I have yet to try my first.

Hah. Did she really show up wearing a skirt? Male or female, I never take rank beginners on singletrack until at least their 2nd or 3rd ride. Not sure if it was actually your goal, but I agree she'll never mtn bike with you again.

:)
No that's not a skirt. She has spandex shorts on underneath. it's just a really long shirt.

I was riding and she just wanted to go so I said O.K.
Did you take her out on trails beyond her ability?? My wife wants to start riding with me and I know that I will have to take her on the most beginner of beginner trails for a good while before I consider much more. I can see he having a similar reaction to your wife otherwise... at least she can laugh about it.
HaHa good read. My wife would have probably done the exact same thing. I will take her on a lot of paved trails before even thinking of bringing her on single tracks
That was a good read. I hope she gets back out there with you and rides an easier trail. Either way, at least she has a good attitude about it. Gig'em!
First rule; Never take the wife on more than a yellow trail, the first 2-3 rides. My wife busted her knee and I haven't been able to get her on a bike since than. She claims it still hurts when she pedals. That was 6 months ago. My 7 year old son does the blue trail.
i think you made the right move, who needs to be nagged while riding?
I did the same thing about 7 years ago with my wife......

needless to say it took 7 years to get her back up on her bike ........but now i cant keep her off! but needless to say it's gonna be a while till I get her on singletrack...... well the kind we have here.... at least. Should of stuck to the bunny trails....BAD MISTAKE BUDDY! it's gonna be a loooooooong 7 years...
i've been taking my wife on a nice green trail (poverty creek at pandapas for those who may know the area) about every other weekend. she loves it. its mostly flowy and flat with a couple hardish climbs on the way out. lots of creek crossings which she loves and some moderate rock gardens and a few roots. she's having blast building her confidence up and getting into shape.
This was the trail we went on. It is a beginner single track.

lots of tips for getting the gals started (assuming they aren't animals about sports already) in the women's lounge, check the stickies.
I remember taking my wife mtb for the first time. She actually did quite well.

Her biggest problem was her weight. Or lack of. The front suspension didn't really work with such a light rider and there was a fast, bumpy section where she was tossed around and finally lost it. With a friend crashing on top of her.

That was the last time she rode trails...roughly 12 years ago.

Hopefully we can try some mild trails again with the kids. But for now, she says you couldn't pay her to go riding.

Maybe start on the road or bikepath?

Honestly though, from the blog you linked to, I get the impression trail riding is (and was) probably never going to happen.
Dude, I don't think that I will ever get my wife on a trail. She has seen me come home with mud, blood, and a broken bike; and she never has acted like any of it would be fun. At least she was willing to give it a try.
Besides (and no offense) at least she's good looking...

I was dating a female who wanted to go on a bike ride with me on this short road path I used to take. She whined about half of the time.

Needless to say, I dumped her.
women just dont understand men and the outdoors

No offense taken

We're going back out there tomorrow. She's going to walk our dogs while I ride.

Tread lightly with comments like that... I am sure there are some girls on this forum that would disagree. :D

I know my older sister is probably tougher and into the outdoors more than some of my guy friends... she is probably one of the exceptions moreso than the rule.
