Oh yeah, the cranks look really purdy:JMKM said:Damn, looks like Jeff's got some time to polish up some XTR cranks. I just put a high polish on a set of Ultegra's for my fixie. Way higher polish than the silver ano they come in, I'm talking mirror finish, looks hot! Looks like polished parts is coming back around.
Nope, not mine unfortunately. I do have a deposit in with Jeff right now. I am in "line" so to speak. I have riden with Jeff twice. Both times on his personal bikes. His set-ups are perfect and the cable pull brakes work flawlessly.OneGearGuy said:that is insanely beautiful. did it show up in your email because it is your bike?!
the cable routing/use of straight jackets is super innovative. the other really cool thing that jumps out it that with all the bling this bike posesses, Avid BB-7s were still chosen for stopping duties!![]()
that is nice to look at!motoman711 said:JONE'S PORN! Notice ExiWolf on front and rear. Also too much bling to shake a stick at:
Jeff doesn't use cartridge bearing headsets (ala Chris King). He uses an older style cup and ball system (he uses 2 top headsets for his custom fork). This is because the loads caused by the fork are mainly vertical with a little side loading. A cartridge bearing is not ideal for loads which are perpandicular to the rotation of the bearings. I hope that I got that right... I can't remember what brand he uses though, sorry.jh_on_the_cape said:that is nice to look at!
what headset is that?
Looks like he wanted to remove all brand names from the bike (cranks, headset...), surprised he didnt photoshop out the thomson.
Jeff specs his bikes with Avid Mechs. Reasons:TheRedMantra said:Holy crap that thing is nice! I cant imagine the cost. The only thing I dont like about that bike are the avid mechanicals.
I agree with Jeff. I can't find any advantages to using hydraulic brakes over Avids.motoman711 said:Jeff specs his bikes with Avid Mechs. Reasons:
- Bullet proof
- Awesome power and modulation
- Trailside repairable
The fact that he specs avid mech when price is obviously no object says a lot about the quality of the brake I think. It also shows that he picks components for a reason not just bling value.

but a new WTB would be a nice choice.

oh yeah, and the rest of the bike is amazing. flawless.
Well, I beleive that he has stopped taking deposits because the waiting list is just too long. Your best bet would be to call Jeff himself. He is quite cool to talk to:1strongone1 said:Does anyone know the current wait time on a Jones frame?
Thanks
I talked to him last year and he said it would be a year wait. Just think I would be getting the frame about now. I don't want to keep bothering him, but I don't have enough cash or patience to wait a year for a new frame. If I could get one in a couple of months I would possibly order one.motoman711 said:Well, I beleive that he has stopped taking deposits because the waiting list is just too long.
