Right all I recieved this drawing today from Nicolai, its for a xl AM with a shortened seat tube (i.e. the stubby bit cut of, not the tt lowered) with ac travel and a 65mm stroke shock.

What do I need to check?

rear wheel clash and pedal strike potential for starters !
why the fook do you want an AM with AC travel ?
and why complicate the AM even further when it has it's own personality, esp. with a 57mm shock fitted FFS ?
65mm stroke shock and AC travel should suit you TLR? No wallow midstroke?

I think your config makes great sense, AM has too much travel really, and AC seems too weak.

Tell us more about how they can fit a 65mm stroke shock?
Now you see I was going to have exactly the same bike, just a large with a medium seat tube. My thinking was that 147mm was more than enough but I wanted a bike as strong as the AM as I've broken several other frames and wanted the additional beef. In the end I realised that running the AM in 150mm mode was going to acheive largely the same thing.

I guess Ian wants the strength but not neccessarily the travel of the AM? Which seems perfectly reasonable.
Ok, 160mm is too much travel.
I weigh 150kg so need the frame strength
increasing the stroke reduces the work the shock has to do
In the lowest travel setting the leverage ratio will be less the 2, better then a foes

mikeal nr1 i guess they lengthen the swing arm which comes of the top tube

I think it's an excellent idea. a proper XC/AM bike for big blokes. I've currently got a large customer with an FR and despite discussions with CC and mojo we can't get him a coil shock to suit as he needs a 900lb spring and it just wouldn't fit. he's confined to an air shock with huge pressure.
That doesnt work dipper, on my fr i needed a 1100lb spring, had one custom made, didnt work. which is why i'm currently running a st with a 700lb spring but i can only run it on 160mm travel

Should be running about a 500lb spring on this
Well, if it's easy for them to accomodate the frame for a longer shock stroke, why isn't that standard?
I dont think it is, i dont think the stoke would fit on a small or xs frame, so they would have to have 2 rigs for different sizes
You need to check the fork axle to crown - i believe you've specced a Fox 36 rather than a Fox 32.

Then lets get the order in - there's an ever increasing waiting list at the moment!
