Does anyone know of any good areas to ride this weekend in the Snowshoe WV area. We are planning a weekend at a friends cabin and are trying to decide whether to bring the MTB's or not.

Tons of trails in the area but I'd call someplace like Elk River Touring Center to see if you should bring a bike or XC skiis. Or if the trails are good for anything, they might be a slushy, muddy mess right now.

Drove through the Rimel area today. Things have been melted off for some time and seem fairly dry. I'm sure riding today would be half decent, especially considering it's February. BUT, I'm guessing that with the 100% chance of rain Thursday-Friday night, it won't take long at all for the saturated ground to turn to a soggy mess. I wouldn't really want to take a bike out in that crap. With crappy (and expensive) skiing and wet conditions for riding, it may be a great weekend to sit around and drink. Inside.

Looks like kayaking will be the sport of choice in the near future. Forecast looks like mostly rain with some snow possible.

I'm staying Slatyfork with a bunch of friends starting tomorrow too. After seeing the weather I think some of guys are planning on some target practice up the Mine Road around Sharp's Knob. I would sit inside and drink but the price of a lift ticket is two rounds at the bars on up the mountain.

Should have stayed in BC. Whistler got 6'2" of snow in one week last week.

We have decided to take the ski gear, MTBs, trout fishing gear, a deck of cards and few cases of beer.

Sorry for any mini-hijack, but a couple of friends and myself were planning to head down to Snowshoe 3/9-12 for some downhill ski action. Most of what I had read so far was that snow was still pretty decent w/ a bit warmer weather and some rain over this weekend but supposedly cooling down again after that.

Is it going to be a big waste of money, time, and gas? Would we be better off waiting til late spring and hitting the bike park/trails instead?

There was still plenty of base a couple of weeks ago. March should be OK if the it doesn't stay warm and slush it all up.

Think we'll probably hold off until mid-week and see what the 10 day forecasts are saying before we make any reservations.

Still tons of base on Wednesday when I was there. They don't have any snow in the trees like they have had all season, but their trails are going to be in good shape for several weeks to come. They have also been making snow (when weather allows) to fill in areas that are getting thin.
