I was there too and raced in the beginner class.
I thought I was in pretty good shape for a guy my age until we staged for the start.
I had to laugh as I watched my age group leave me in the dust. I did finish under 1:30:00 which was a goal I set for myself, so I considered it a great day and a great ride.

I do have to question some of the people who are in the beginner class, I mean give me a break.

The problem is, people get addicted to the podium, and are reluctant to move up a class. I race DH, and I finally moved up to Sport class. I got my Arse handed to me on Saturday. There are some very fast riders in Sport.

This was my first XC race and I knew that 13 miles in Big Bear would be tough.
When the beginner cutoff hooked back up with the main trail it was a bit nerve racking having to deal with the expert and sport riders, especially on the singletracks.
I will definitely be back next year to try it again. Maybe even keep up with my own age group.

I was there on Sunday with a buddy of mine who raced, he finished 8th in his group for beginners (i think) not bad since he was sick with a cold. I rode the rest of the park, met some really cool people, one in particular who raced DH the day before and captured 3rd in expert class. He took me down a section off westridge that i have never done before... i don't think i have spent that much time in the dirt in such a short distance, but over all it was a blast.

Where on Westridge was it. OIn saturday, my buddy wiped out and I helped him so we were left to catch up to the guy we were following and had to guess where he went, took a split to the right into some trees that we soon regretted. it was where you go left towards a berm thing on the face of the slope or right down into the trees. I ended up clipping a tree and sliding without my bike unable to stop myself for a bit till I grabbed some tree roots. was a pretty hairy section but fun.

Good job everyone. There were lot of fast riders in the beg/sport class. I didnt race but my friend did. He raced in sport class (first time) thinking he might do well. But it turns out he wasnt and got last place, he still had a good time there.

BTW if any of you guys raced in the beg/sport class I might have taken a pic of you guys going down. I got bored waiting for my friend to get down so I decided to just take pics of the other riders. Just tell me your bib number and ill look it up. Some of the pics are alright, not pro quality. hehe

I was number 1184 (beginner class).
I was doing pretty good until we reached Log Chute. Gets a little nerve racking trying to manuever while someone is yelling behind to let them pass. We pre-rode the course on Saturday and I was able to make Log Chute, but Sunday was a different story. I had to stop twice when the gut behind me distracted me.
All in all it was alot of fun.

Haha ya thats definatly a very tough section, very slippery. Made sure not to make the mistake of going that way the rest of the day, when I get a little armor I'll give it another shot next time I'm there. I just love the flying through middle section of westridge with the continous tabletops, and the top couple sections of Falline

What are the average times of the winner in begginer class (on log chute?)
Most of the beg times varied from 3 min to 4 min. You can check out the results here. But most of the guys in the beg class were doing as good as the sport guys so it wasnt really much of a big difference.
