Yeah. All it takes is a bike that grooves in the snow, a pair of thermal manpris and a pickled egg from a jar with Hitler's brain in it and you'll know winter is on.

Winter is so on.

You bet!.....had a couple of really good snow rides last year....decided to hit the Reserve today....however the snow today seemed to be a bit more slick than I remember from my snow days last year...wetter maybe?...tires were packing up, traction pretty much sucked, cleats were packing up making it a b*tch to clip in........attempted to ride up Bucks but gave up....wondering if the cross tires would have worked better than the 2.3 WTB's?
good question

Too much deep knobby may not be the best. Which WTBs you running? Defying logic, the best tires I have run in the snow have been my 2.4 WTB Mutanoraptors, a tall and not wide tire. Beats me why they work so well. Your pedal issues can be solved real easy with some flat pedals and FiveTen shoes. Just give'r and see. You may never go back.
Been running the Exiwolfs that came on the bike......they worked well last year......not so much today. I'm curious what other tires are preferred in the ID snow?
You'd probably get 100 different answers to that one. I run a WTB 2.4 Motoraptor on the front and a Maxxis High Roller 2.35 on the back on one bike and that's been an OK combo for me if it's not too icy. Just experiment until you find what works for you.

Or just slap some skis on the bike.
About bikes and tires - it ain't the meat, it's the motion.

In this case cranks are about worth a pisshole in the snow. Just screw in a couple of pegs and you'll be off riding like Fred Flintstone.

Where did everyone go?

A little snow and everyone goes home. Saturday afternoon and two latties later the wife and I head out for a ride expecting to be alone. As usual, we run into Gary on the trail.

The snow was crunchy and felt like we were float. That is until the up hill on Shane's.

A good time was had by all including the 13-year-old English Setter. She was on fire!

Winter, the time of year those willing to brave the cold get the trails back and a little solitude.

Snow is for sliding, not riding. Getting the skate skis waxed, the rocket box on the car, and the snowboard tuned up. See you one-single-track minders next spring.

Cut to the chase, Snowball. Just get waxed.

And duck the shoes.

Yep

I hear you, It's crazy how nobody is out riding the trails now. It's just like when I ski Bogus in the summer, I have the whole mountain to myself, no lift lines and I can park right next to the lodge, it's awesome. Anyone have any suggestions for a great summer ski wax that glides better over rocks and dirt?
