Maybe we should have been XC skiing but we started the new year with a Ride on Snow. Fellow Mtbr'ers TwoWheelsGood, CrashPlayer19, Buddy123, Sprocket, and Bear were all game for the challenging conditions. We had about 3 inches of new snow over some very firm frozen ground and ice. The snow was great snowball fight snow...compacted after one rider broke trail. We all took turns at the front to pave the way. Here are a few pics and vids:
.....it snowed the entire ride too....just a fine light flurry.....there was a rime covering up at the highest point of the ride......got back to the house and found a Samual Smiths Cider waiting for me.......Really nice riding in the winter!
Great pix, dude. Love the video. You know it's funny, I used to hate winter riding. I found it to be a necessary evil to try in shape for the warm months, but I didn't reall enjoy it. This year I've actually really had fun with it.
I love the video of the mt bike merry go round...that is cool! Looks like a great ride to ring in the New Year!
Nanker, I know what you mean. In recent years, if I did not have to leave the house in the winter I would not. Now, I love being out on the bike...and if there is fresh snow on the ground that just makes it better! I can't really say I am doing it to stay in shape(hey wait...ROUND is a shape!)I am just really having fun!!!:madman:
Nobody made it up out of Jeff's back yard, as far as I know, but people gave it a good try.
.. and out near Fountain Lake it was all frozen ...
... mostly ... I don't think i'd be comfortable being out on the ice but somebody was for sure.
I'm very happy I was able to keep up my Ride On the 1st of the 1st every year pattern, even if I wasn't able to hang as long as normal. Wish I had made it to the singletrack though.
Looks like a great time was had by all! I forgot how much fun winter could be...I am so glad that there are so many friendly people involved in mountain biking! Thank you for inviting me to enjoy this sport. I am just hoping that before the season comes to an end I can try cross-country skiing!
