Starting a big mtb vacation in Montana at the end of the week and was wondering about the snow level in the Bozeman area. We are really looking forward to riding some of Montana's epic singletrack and enjoying your beautiful state!

Have checked out the Bozeman Trail Report blog but it does not mention many of the trails we are planning on riding, except Bangtail.

How about other more alpine trails?
Are Hyalite/Storm Castle, Blackmore, Emerald Lake and Porcupine all under snow still? Anything along the Gallatin Crest?
We are crossing our fingers that we didn't plan our trip too early in the year.

If those trails are going to be closed due to snow, what would you suggest as alternatives?

Any information would be very much appreciated.

Gallatin Crest is snow covered but you have other options. Snow is melting fast right now!

Bangtail Divide should be rideable with some occasional snow patches to walk through. Storm Castle and Garnet Mtn are totally snow free (rode Garnet yesterday). Anything on the west side of the Bridgers is snow free. Not too sure about the Hyalite trails though.

Porcupine has been rideable for over a week.

Last night the parking lot at Porcupine was flooded but the trail after that was fine.

Garnet is snow free, but the river had flooded onto the road in a bad way (on Monday). It's ridable, but not very fun.

Wow. I was thinking of riding Garnet this week (or maybe weekend) too (in addition to Charlie's). Maybe I'll wait until next week and ride something closer to home.

It's only about 100 yards of road that look like that. If it's still raging this weekend, I'll walk around it.

The rest of the road and singletrack is delicious.
