Well i was havin a dh run down at my local trails washed out around a loose corner no damage to the bike except when my pull my sore self up a notice a bit of metal and thought nothing of it and till i started riding again and notice i was missing my downshifter on the shifter (the silver one that sits on the bottom). now i kept that part of it and it still shifts fine execpt i have to move the mech away to shift or its to hard. now i dont have mosh to shell out for another one at the moment and i was wondering if you could swap it out for an x7 one that had been snapped in a different spot? if not would the metal be to weak to try and weld it back onto were it snapped off?

Thanks for the help mtbr

i dont think welding it is a good idea. If its the X9 shifter that looks like the XO model, its a cast aluminium part, welding is gonna cause problems, plus it will probably melt the rest of your shifter

If i was in your position and had no money for a new one, heres what i would do

SUPERGLUE AND LOTSA DUCTAPE!
yea good idea mate :) thanks for the input
nup the lever is bent im goin to see tomoro if my mate gus's works if not ill weld the sucker
still if i cant find replacements ill still try ill take the two snapped bits off though so i can still salvage if i snap another one
Welding cast is a bad idea

Don't even bother trying to weld small cast pieces like that, first off the procedure for welding cast is quite in depth and if your a novice or have never welded cast your either going to warp it, burn through or if you luck out it will hold together long enought to break while your shifting due to the metal now being to brittle.

If it's a SRAM shifter look at the parts diagrams figure out what piece you need and bring the part number to your LBS and order it.
you can't muster up like probably 20-30 bucks to buy a used one off ebay or craigslist or something?
im 16 and all my money is going to my lbs to pay for my ruckus bcause hegave it to me early
I did exactly the same thing. My solution:

Problem solved.

I did that, with some sort of rods I can't remember what they were made of. It lasted a few rides, then suddenly peeled off.

Shifters are really cheap.
Just buy a new shifter, even x7 works fine. You should be able to get one for 20-30 bucks.

I snapped my front der shifter and used an x7, bought a set in case I break the other.
You're making this WAY too complicated. Just buy a new shifter. You can get X5, X7, X9, doesn't matter. If you can afford a several thousand dollar bike then you can afford $20 for some random parts bin used sram shifter. Quit being a whiner and accept the fact that riding bikes costs money. It's odd to think that a single trail ride could end up costing thousand of dollars. If you love the sport you suck it up and start doing things the right way.

Yes.
FYI

loosen the bolt a little that holds down your lever....this allows your brakes and shifters to spin in an accident and not break
well i had a look and found you can get a replacement for 15 dollars. and you guys may think i am cheap but i dont see the point in shellin out money when you can save by doing some research.

Cheers reign rider for the advice you have made me keep my x9 shifter and not need to downgrade
