Well I snapped my slx derailleur somehow on a drop. Luckily I didn’t do any damage to the wheels. Just some paint damage on the frame.
Been calling shops all day and nobody has any in stock except one shop with XTR.
One mechanic recommended I go GX derailleur as he thinks they are more durable and has seen many shimano snap in the same spot. Any issues with the rest of my setup being slx?

I've seen many more SRAM derailleurs break than Shimano.

Neither statement is particularly statistically significant, so I would encourage you to ask yourself, "did this happen because of a freak accident, or some deficient design?"

My money is on one, not two. It's easy to hit something in a landing zone and think, "I didn't even hit anything". If it's a full suspension, it's even more likely--in that there was chain growth at full compression that caused the chain to tear off the derailleur, especially in a low gear.

Chain growth tearing off the derailleur? Hum never heard of that happening. I am hesitant to swap to sram anyways but so far I’ve called a bunch of places and found one place an hour away with an xtr derailleur which is quite a jump in cost.

If you change to GX you'll have to change the shifter as well.

and as wschruba GX isn't any more durable than Shimano stuff
The old 10 and 11 speed stuff = yes, I agree.
The new 12 speed stuff = would say no. I have seen more than just a few pics of broken Shimano 12 speed mechs at the very same spot. Mostly Deore and SLX.
There was someone here on the forum who wrote that this failure is a combination of "weight saving, aka less material" on this spot and a "sticky clutch" which puts more stress on that spot while riding. That maybe the case.

Universal cycles is stocked with Deore 12 speed 6100 long cages. Grab one and a spare
I have one of these. Shifting is fine, but I have never seen a cage this thin and soft on any derailleur.
I wouldn't dare to use a 6100 on real trails. I also have a XT 8100. The cage feels more rigid.

I do believe SLX carries a 2 year warranty from date of purchase, XT and XTR is 3. Your bike shop should be able to file a warranty claim with Shimano and replace it.

They might not have one, but I've been surprised before. They were caught out flat 2 years ago, but started allocating more product to warranty only.
